Ich hatte Metallica zuletzt in Gelsenkirchen im Juni 2004 gesehen und hatte mich damals entschieden,nie wieder zu einem Metallica Konzert zu gehen. Das war schlicht schlecht und lag wohl daran, dass sie gerade die CD "St. Anger" veröffentlicht hatten, die ja wirklich sehr schlecht ist. Dieses Mal war alles anders. Die Musiker bemühten sich um eine freundliche Stimmung und nahmen regen Kontakt zu den Erst-Reihen-Besuchern auf. Auch die Tatsache, dass die Bühne wieder in der Mitte der Halle war und die Musiker ständig die Positionen wechselten,wirkte locker und entspannt. Die Light-Show die aus Sarg-Imitationen,die in vier Exemplaren unter dem Dach der Oly Halle angebracht waren,präsentiert wurde, war große Klasse. Besonders die Laser Präsentation beeindruckte sehr. Musikalisch lag der Schwerpunkt beim neuen Album: That was Just Your Life The End Of The Line Broken, Beat & Scared The Day That Never Comes All Nightmare Long Cyanide Und im Übrigen die Hits, die immer gespielt werden müssen. Besonders gut kommt bei den Fans auch die freundliche Verabschiedung der Band an. Wie man der Set-Liste entnehmen kann, wird am Ende des Konzerts von Hetfield gefordert, dass die "Hose Lights" angeschaltet werden. De Band will auf diese Weise ihre Fans sehen und sie verabschiedeten sich bestimmt fünf bis zehn Minuten lang. Ich hatte den Eindruck Metallica spielt lieber in den mittleren Hallen als im Stadion. Der Kontakt zum Publikum erscheint wichtig zu sein. Ein rund herum ordentliches und gut gespieltes Konzert mit allen Nuancen, die man von Metallica erwartet. time I've seen Metallica, it was in Gelsenkirchen in june 2004. And then I
had decided, never to attend a Metallica Concert again.Maybe also due to
the fact, that the band had just released their CD 'St.Anger', which I
didn't like at all. This time is was truly different. The musicians tried hard to develop a friendly atmosphere and connect to the audiance in the front rows. Also the fact, that the stage was placed in the middle of the venue, and the guys rushed around all over the place seemed so much more relaxed. The lightshow, which was done by four coffins, situated on the ceiling of the venue, was superb too. Exspecially the laser presentation did a lot of impression on the crowd. Musically the focus was of course put on the new album: That was Just Your Life The End Of The Line Broken, Beat & Scared The Day That Never Comes All Nightmare Long Cyanide and of course all the hit weren't missing. In the end James Hatfield asked for turning the venue lights on, as you can read in the setlist as well. And the fans appreciated the warm good bye by the band, which took at least 5 to 10 minutes. I had the impression, that Metallica prefers to play venues more than in a stadium. The direct contact to the audiance seemed very important to them this time. Well, this was a solid well played concert in many different shades, whatever you expected from Metallica. And whenever they return to the Olympiahalle, I'll be there again. Stefan |

| wow... Leute... das war gestern
echt ein perfektes Konzert... die neuen Songs kommen live extrem gut
daher...und die alten natürlich erst recht grandiose stimmung in der olyhalle... die band war extrem gut drauf und hat eine allerfeinste show hingelegt... was echt übel war: der sound der vorgruppen - eine band wie metallica sollte doch so eine schiebung nicht nötig haben (oder wer auch immer das zu verantworten hat) - es war wirklich wie zu schlimmsten zeiten, man konnte von der vorgurppe den gesang kaum erkennen und auch der rest klang eher nach brei... was ich vor allem bei sword sehr schade fand, denn die mucke selbst klang nicht übel... es waren wirklich welten die klangtechnisch zwischen den vorgruppen und metallica lagen... guys, this here yesterday, was a truly perfect concerts.... the new songs come across extremly well, and of course the old wellknown one's even better. Great atmosphere here at the Olympiahalle, and the band was obviously in a very good mood too. And so they offered us a brilliant show. Rather bad was the sound of the supportbands. How come? Metallica doesn't need such a thing (whoever was responsible for that). It was really bad, and we could almost not hear the vocals, and rest sounded like a pie or something like it.... Shame, exspecially what's up to Sword, because I think, their music is great. The acoustic condition between the two supportacts Sword and Machinehead and the headliner Metallica were worlds apart from each other.... Susa |

| Das war ja gleich mal so was von genial!!!! Bei der Lasershow am Anfang, hätte man meinen können, man hätte sich zu TSO verlaufen aber das und die Pyros etc. pp seeehr amtlich Die Setliste fand ich fein, wär aber auch statt einiger Raritäten anstatt der Gassenhauer für die Massen noch zu steigern gewesen, aaaaber! ich sage nur Columbien .... ausserdem braucht man ja auch mal ne Pinkelpause. Und bloss mal gleich for the Record: Trujillo ist einer von den beiden Menschen auf diesem Planeten, die in Shorts und hochgezogenen weissen Tennissocken rumlaufen dürfen!!! der andere Mensch ist Aguilera in Hotpants und Socken bis zum Knie Hammet fand ich diesmal etwas schlurfig ... ist halt auch nicht mehr der Jüngste apropos nicht mehr der Jüngste ... ist Hetfield ja nu' auch nicht mehr, hat kürze Haare und einen ausgesprochen dämlichen Bart aber Schande, ist der kerl lecker Die Plätze auf der Tribüne waren auch super, Spitzenaussicht und ich hatte Plaaaaatz dafür - ein Mega-Huld Mara |

war absolutely great!!!! In the beginning, when the lasershow opened the set, you could get the impression, that we are here at a TSO gig, with all the pyros - very official... The setlist is fine, I thought, but instead of all the smashhits, they could have increased the value of the setlist with some more rarities. But..... I only say - Columbia... apart from that, everybody needs a break for the bathroom intbetween, don't we...?! And just for the record...Trujillo is the only one of two human beeings on our planet, who can wear shorts and puled up white tennis socks. The other one is Aquilera in Hotpants and socks going up 'till her knees. Hammet I thought was a bit scrumpy. Yeah well, he ain't that young anymore, is he...?! By the way, so ain't Hetfield, whith much shorter hair now and a stupid beard... but apart from that, very tasty..... Our seats on the grand stand was super as well. | Hab Metallica seit 1987 jetzt
auch zum vierten Mal gesehen und kann auch nur sagen, das war wieder
spitzenmäßig ! Selbst die neuen Songs sind live gut rübergekommen und
wurden vom Publikum genauso abgefeiert wie die alten Sachen ! Ich fand vor
allem die Lasershow gleich beim ersten Song "that was just your
life" nach dem allseits bekannten und bei mir immer wieder gänsehauterzeugenden
"Ecstasy Of Gold"Iintro ziemlich geil ! Mike |
I've seen
Metallica four times since 1987. And I can only say, that was really
great again. Even the new songs, performed live, came across very superb
and were received well by the audiance. Same of course with the old
tracks. Most of all I liked the laser show right in the beginning with
the intro 'Ecstacy Of Gold' intro, followed by the first song 'That Was

| Kann ich soweit unterschreiben! War mit Sicherheit das Beste, was ich dieses Jahr gesehen hab und ich kann mir auch ned vorstellen, dass das 2009 noch mal jemand so leicht toppt! Ich hab sie ja länger nimmer gesehen, aber Metallica live sind und bleiben die gottverdammt beste Metalband dieses Planeten! Und James Hetfield weiterhin die zweitcoolste Sau auf Erden! confirm all this here. This was surely the best thing, I've seen this year. And I can't think of anybody topping this within this year. I haven't had seen Metallica for a long time, but again I have to say, Metallica are the god damned best metalband on this planet. And James Hetfield is still the second coolest pig on earth. | Die Setlist der 2 Stunden 15
Minuten langen Show von Metallica bestand in etwa aus folgenden Songs:
Master Of Puppets, Seek & Destroy, One, Battery,Enter Sandman, Sad
But True, The Unforgiven, Nothing Else Matters, The Day That Never Comes,
All Nigtmare Long, Cyanide, That Was Just Your Life, The Four Horsemen,
Whiplash, Broken Beat & Scarred. Die Stimmung war umwerfend und
durch die ovale Bühne in der Mitte der Arena hat jeder Besucher eine
nahezu optimale Sicht gehabt. Der Sound war auch überwiegend gut. Mir
gefällt die Stimme von James Hetfield auf CD schon nicht, doch auch
live klingt sie hin und wieder nicht so gut. Ansprachen gab es von ihm fast gar keine und schon gar nicht von den anderen drei Musikern. Die Support Band The Sword war total überflüssig. Die Ränge waren während des kompletten Auftritts ziemlich leer, der Sound war miserabel und die Musik war auch nicht mein Geschmack. Machine Head ernteten dann ein wenig Beifall aber meinen Geschmack treffen sie auch nicht. Ihr bester Song war meiner Meinung nach das Iron Maiden Cover "Hallowed Be Thy Name", wobei man keinen Song der wohl unerreichbarsten Metal Band aller Zeiten covern sollte. ;-) Fazit: Der Metallica Fan kam dank starker Setlist, großartiger Show, zuschauerfreundlicher Bühne und langer Spielzeit voll auf seine Kosten aber mir wären die unübertreffbaren eisernen Jungfrauen lieber gewesen als Metallica oder Machine Head. Aber zum Glück sind Geschmäcker verschieden und eigentlich lassen sich die Bands auch nicht miteinander vergleichen ... Michael |

Cyanide, That Was Just Your Life, The Four Horsemen, Whiplash, Broken
Beat & Scarred. The atmosphere was overwhelming, and due to the fact, that the stage was positioned in the center of the venue, everybody in the audiance had a phantastic view. The sound was great. I don't like the voice of James Hetfield on CD. But also live it doesn't sound that good from time to time. Almost no announcements given by him, and of course none by the other 3 musicians. There was no need for the first Supportband Sword, and the whole place was still very empty, when they went on stage. The sound was more than miserable, and the music ain't my cup of tea anyway. Machine Head got a bit more attention after this one, but it's not my taste either. In my point of view, their best song was the Iron Maiden cover 'Hallowed By The Name'. Mind me, you shouldn't cover a song of the one of the best Metal acts anyway...:-) My Conclusion is: for the average Metallica fan, this great show and the strong setlist must have been very satisfying. I for my part would have preferred Iron Maiden to Metallica and Machine Head. But as we say so: thanks god, individual tastes are different, and eventually you can't compare Maiden and Metallica anyway... Michael |

| Für mich war das Metallica
Konzert nicht unbedingt das Highlight, obwohl die Band eine
hervorragende Show ablieferte. Von den höheren Rängen aus was das
Blickfeld etwas eingeschränkt. Und bei den beiden Supportbands Sword
und Machine Head waren noch viele Plätze leer.Anfangs kam nicht so viel
Stimmung auf, vermutlich weil nicht nur Metal Fans im Publikum waren.
Auch dass diesmal keine Leinwand für Großaufnahmen angebracht war, im
Gegensatz zu Kiss damals, entäuschte mich. Und die Vorband Sword sah
man von Block S aus, wo ich saß, nur von hinten. Machinehead hingegen
nützten die komplette Rundbühne. Eine coole Band, die ich gern mal als
Headliner sehen würde. Wirklich beeindruckt hat mich dann das Feuerwerk
zu Beginn von Metallicas Set. Und es gab sofort Standing Ovations und
Begeisterung kam auf.Ich fühle mich nicht wohl auf den Rängen oben,da
ich auch unter Höhenangst leide. Aber bei so großen Bands wie Kiss,
AC/DC oder Metallica hat man eben nicht immer die Auswahl. Metallica hatten viele Klassiker auf der Setliste. Der Höhepunkt kam zum Schluss mit 'Seek And Destroy', und statt Konfetti gabs große schwarze Luftballons. Die Band hat offensichtlich den Kontakt zum Publikum gesucht. Aber da haben nur die vorderen Reihen etwas davon. Trotzdem war es gut einmal dabei gewesen zu sein und Metallica haben ein Klasse-Konzert gespielt. Der Großteil der Fans ist dann zufrieden nach Hause gefahren. Die U-Bahn Fahrten nach solchen Großevents brauche ich wohl nicht weiter zu beschreiben. Für mich bleiben aber Clubkonzerte mit Meet & Greet das Highlight,weil man da der Band näher ist als auf teuer bezahlten Plätzen weit weg von der Bühne auf einer Tribüne. Auf alle Fälle hat die Band einen guten Job gemacht, vor allem Lars Ulrich, der auch abseits vom Schlagzeug für Stimmung gesorgt hat. Er ist ein Weltklasse Drummer. Metallica sind halt einfach Kult. Und es war auf alle Fälle ein einmaliges Erlebnis, dabei gewesen zu sein. Stefanie |
For me the Metallica
concerts was not a real highlight, though the band played a
brilliant show. But from far away, I had some sight problems. At the 2 supportbands, the venue wasn't crowded yet, and the average mood was rather low.Maybe because there weren't only metal fans in the audiance. I also dismissed a big screen, so we fans situated rather far away from the stage could get some full blown up images. From my block, I saw the first supportact Sword only from the backside anyway. Machinehead used the opportunity of the oval stage in the center of the venue and moved around all over the place. They are a cool band, and I would luv to see them headlinging a show one day. Very impressing was also the fireworks in the beginning of Metallica's set. And there were immidiately standing ovations. I don't feel really well up there, as I suffer from a scare of heights.But with such big acts like Metallica, Kiss or AC/DC you just don't have so much choices. The band had many classic tunes on their setlist. And the highpoint came in the end with 'Seek And Destroy', - no confetti, but therefore huge black balloons. The guys obvously were looking for contact to the audiance. But again, only the first rows had the pleasure to communicate with the group. Although it was good to have been there. And most fans went home really satisfied. I don't neet do describe the underground trip after such a concert. For me personally I prefer the small clubconcerts and a meet & greet afterwards, because of the better connection to the band. In each case, the band has done a great job, most of all Lars Ullrich, who took care for entertainment besides sitting behind his drumkit. He is a true worldclass drummer.
