Saga

No, no, no,... I don't wanna see Saga again, not for the 192nd time or is it 243rd time?! Never mind. I stopped counting already after the fifth time. And apart from that, one Saga show doesn't really defere from another anyway. - Perfect, clear, straight and not a single false tune. Like it sounds on CD, - on all their CDs and records. But who cares. I did program my video for taping the famous Oldie-Rockshow on TV (unfortunately) and I got a free ticket from the tour pomoter and a photopass, - so why sitting at home?! And because Saga enjoy a kinda homebonus here in Munich, and a good mood is almost garanteed, compared to most other places in the world including their homecountry Canada (I mean the bonus) so why not coming again to check out the Sadler and Crichton clan for the .... oh god damn it... how many times more, again.

Perfect again like a swiss clockwork, - without the Rolex crown, but therefore with the brandnew Sadler look ala' Kojak, the maple leaf export show themselves once again in a very good mood. Not for the first few minutes though, because of internal sound-technical problems. And as we all know, these fine mechanics don't like this at all. I mean, why are we doing a 3 hour soundcheck before each show? (another case for the guiness book of records I'd say so) But otherwise Saga don't need a mega show to present themselves attractively. Some spotlight effects  on an overdimensional screen at the back of the stage are enough and draw away from the visual presence of our Ontario Combo. Which ain't a disadvantage really, is it?! Eh... sorry, I just mean.... but personal tastes are fortunately always different, thanks god for that. And over all and last but not least,  it rather depends on the musical novelle cuisine, we get served, and not the visual fast, to let us come again and again and again to one more and another Saga show. I mean, what does it help, to see some sort of Chippendales up there on stage, who rather sound like an antique tankengine with loss of all the oil. No, we rather prefer - small, round and happy, - well Ian.... or Freddy Mercury's spirit, arguing with Michael Sadler's  sexy aura.  Okay, the last thing, is - once again - a matter of personal look at it... However, we are getting a over perfect - "the Flyer" - again, a very well done "Wind Him Up" - again, some pieces of the new album "Network" - for the first time, and last but not least - the encore  - a must... "Humble Stance" - again.... The sound has got back to normal and the good mood has returned within the Saga assocciation. And to be honest, all those energetic fans out there didn't take notice of the soundproblems anyway. So what? But just to mention it, - if something sounds reall straight to us, for Saga it is most probably still mixed meat.
All together, this here is another Saga performance, like all the other ones before. And that's why it is no magic, that we're able to remember the gig from 1982, the one from 1986, or was it the one from 1999 or even 2003. We don't have to anyway. Just remember the one tonight, and we know immidiately, how all the other 462 concerts went down before. Always good, always perfect, and always steril, not knowing if this is a record playing or a live shot when listening with closed eyes. Only small difference this time, there's a new face sitting behind the drumkit, which - again perfectly fits in into the Saga'shen habits. So - long talk short sense, - again, - we know everything in advance anyway, - Saga were, are and always will be - 180 percent perfect.

And.... let me say so.... god thanks we are here in Munich...

Xandria

One thing is for sure. The fashion of ancient times wasn't very comfortable. At least, that's my first thought, when I look at this attractive girl up there on stage. But at those times, she probably would have burnt to death for beeing with anyway, concerning her red head. Or am I a little wrong what's up to the periods of this fashion and the inquisition? Never mind, those few centuries are not the point here right now. - In any case the dress is quite good for hiding a - not really model figure. Even it flattens the breasts a little too much on the other hand. But as long as the volume of the lungs does okay, - what's the problem?  Xandria move stylistically somewhere between  all these Nightwishes and Within Temptations, even Lisa doesn't have this opera voice like her collegues. And she doesn't need it honestly. She's singing clear and straight, despite the fact, that she had caught a cold as she told the audiance in the beginning of the set. There was no need for that, because the cold isn't recognizable. Gothic style whatsoever, fact is, that there ain't no dark visual effects, no twilight or dry ice (thanx god for us photographers) No, up there are five youngsters having fun by playing live here and now. Lisa smiles like a sunshine on a a clear winterday, even it's past 11 p.m. when the band starts their set. She's searching for the contact with the audiance. And she finds it straight away. And I'm not sure, if this is due to her open friendly character or her individuell performance. She kisses the  microphone and the floor and liftens her arms to call the spirits of her philosophy. The magic is flowing and the guitars of Xandria are moving. Both albums "Kill The Sun" and "Ravenhead" are ruling the program. The only weak point is the somehow monotone impression. But I'm not quite sure, if this a generell aspect of this musical direction, or only an acoustic fata morgana of myself. That's why I put this so called impression on to my own matter of taste and not to the common tendency. Lisa's charme is overwhelming exspecially effects the male fans of Xandria who gratefully cheer her up. Yes, that's how it should be. And if the band one day hits the big goal hopefully, then the way is free to shoot to the stars like Nightwish. So please don't loose all this ambitions and go for it. Move on - you are the young generation of Rock'n'Roll or Gothic or Darkbeat or whatsoever. Give us another big smile nightingale, and the way is free to paradise.

PS.: only one little request ... next time please start the show a little earlier than bedtime and beyond. We Oldies don't don't have the energy anymore to stay up most of the night, exspecially during the week. - Sandman is sending his regards....
