Quireboys / Doomfox

„A Bit Of What You Fancy“  was the titel of the first successalum of the Quireboys. And to be honest, there was no other successalbum afterwards. Though they've never been forgotten completely. From time to time the band appeared again on the surface to start another effort to climb up the Olymp. But most of the time, the first hill had been already an unbeatable handycap.
What a shame about this band, which is still a brilliant live act who knows, how to catch the audiance. Once more they are proving it here and now in Wörgl, Austria, in front of fans, who are not 1005 sure about it. And I bet, I'm the only one in here tonight, who knows this group from their very beginnings and have seen them quite a few times live on stage in the past.  Since then, many years have gonne. From the original line up, only 3 musicians are left. There is still Spike (voc), who hasn't changed a wink over all this time, neither visually nor vocally. He still sounds like an old saw, which hasn't been oiled for a lifetime. But it wouldn't be him otherwise, would it?! Guy Griffin also with the band from the start, and also still looking 20 something, only the hair has gonne short. And Nigel Moog (bass) is with them. Not on this leg of the german tour, because of other commitments. However, it feels. like times stands still. I close my eyes, and feel immidately transfered back in to 1990. Songs like "Hey You", "There She Goes Again", "7 o'clock" and "I Don't Love You Anymore" start weaking up nostalgic feelings inside me. Oooohhh this is beautiful. It's grooving, it's rocking indeed.
And the biggest surprise is the fact, that there  is an old friend of mine playing the second guitar for the past 2 years. I didn't know it honestly. However, it's nice to meet Paul Guerin again after all those years. And maybe we can stay in touch again occassionally.

But, please don't think now, I've been influenced in my point of view about the gig because of all these other facts. It's not. The Quireboys are still a very good liveband, who mainly lives with the early Nineties songs. And that's the point. Because time doesn't stand still. Okay, the music didn't get outta fashion. That's not the problem. I'm talking  more about the general trends of the musicbiz. And within this tendences right now, the music of the Quireboys doesn't get much space right now. That's why probably also in the future the audiance will be rather small at their gigs. And they will stuck to the ground exept the boys soon find a new strategy. But there ain't no end in sight, don't worry. I for my part, wish them all the best in the world,- because yes of course - we received a triple orgasm tonight no doubt about that...

DOOMFOX

One more word concerning the support, of who most of the people tonight haven't heard before. They are "Doomfox" from Australia. And last time they've been to Europe was with Rose Tattoo on their last tour. And to get it right, Rose Tattoo's guitarist Mick Cocks is playing the guitar with 'em. Compared to the Tatts, the sound of this band here is more flowing and not quite as hard. But they give their best with an earthy groovy Rock'n'Roll which sticks in our ears. In Down Under the name Doomfox is probably much more familiar than over here. But if they carry on like that, they will soon have a name over here as well. The only negative aspect is the usual  weak soundmix.
Please come back again soon, - with or without Rose Tattoo. Even it's a bit more work Mick. And I'm pretty sure, you'll get to munich again sooner or later... don't you worry...
