Waltari

Finland, the country of the 10.000 lakes, wilderness and midnnight sun and and and.... but also of some very good rockacts. One of these groups is Waltari, who are already going for more than 15 years. In the beginning, they were purely into thrashmetal. But with the years the underwent a certain develop, which is rather interesting, combining various influences of other musical styles with their music. So when you listen to a concert of this finnish band, then it can easely happen, that you'll get a tekkno beat thrown round your ears, or housemusic tunes are coming out of the speakers. The whole thing is a cocktail of different ingredients, well mixed and heavily shaked. And during the set the  question is always there, what comes next. Unfortunately, once again, only aprox. 70 fans have found their way into our Garage club. But however, those 70 souls are grateful to the band with a whole lot of enthusiasm. Like their music, Waltari seems to be an excentric bunch of guys, whether it's there music or their look. At least what's up to the singe and the guitarist. Kärtsy Hatakka still reminds me slightly at the young Ronnie James Dio. Only the red hair and his height is a bit different. But the hairstyle is literatually his brand.

To make it short, Waltari still are a first-class rockband, who got themselves a individual status, sounding quite different to the average Heavy Metal bands, because of the extraordinary kinda interpretation of several musicstyles, - as I mentioned it before. The setlist includes tracks of most of their records. Although, exspecially the very excentric songs, are the one's which stick out here. - Waltari got a whole lotta choice anyway, having recorded already 14 albums so far, and the very new one named "Blood Sample" should be out by next march, followed by another tour. And hopefully they'll be back to here as well. With a little bit more promotion, hopefully all our bavarian musiclovers will wake up and have a taste of this band. Very good indeed boys. Individuallity is your goal. And a gig of this kind, won't be forgotten that quickly. So - please come back - won't ya'?!!!

Billy Idol

Okay, I must admit 53 Euros is quite a lot for one concert of the average size. And many of you didn't know, - should I, or should I not. Yep you definately should, because this evening is worth every cent, though there is no supportact. Billy Idol must have thought, that this is not necessary, I'm good enough to get the venue boiling on my own. And yes lads, he truly does it. This healthy portion of arrogance suits him very well. He's selfconfidend, cheak and seems still like a young boy aged 50, who just sold his grandmother. Yes, strike eight the show is starting, our  much hated Zentih venue is shaking.

Yes, Billy Idol is better than ever, dynamic and younger. I cound tell you a whole story about this guy, who I've seen live on stage, already in the early eighties with his band "Generation X". Daddy is dancing with his daughter, and granny is swinging her arthrosis leg. And all the youngstern, who know the blonde pseudo punk only from records, show themselves euphoric, enthusiastic and happily pleased. Aprox. 5.000 fans of all ages have found the way here tonight and have paid the 53,-- And nobody has any regrets. Billy Idol is cult, and icon, who put punkmusic in a commercial dress, to reach the whol world. And honestly he's done it.

For a long time is was pretty quiet around him. But now Billy is back again on the surface with an excellent album and fresh energy. Past week he celebrated his 50. birthday, and he must have thought, now it's time to show 'em what I'm all about.

The whole show is a single explosion and starts with "Super Overdrive" from the new album. And super overdrive is the status in here. The setlist reads like a best of... and greatest hits offer.  „Dancin’ With Myself“, „Flesh“, „White Wedding“, and „Sweet Sixteen“ are following. „To Be A Lover“, „L.A. Woman”, “Hot in The City” and yes of course – “Rebell Yell”.  And at this point the party is finally on it's boiling hot spot.

Billy Idos is accompanied by Steve Stevens, the top guitarist, who first made himself a name with Michael Jackson's "Dirty Diana". The big hair ain't that big anymore, and the make up ain't that colourful like in the past. Only his height is still the same and his brilliant guitarplaying. But never mind, Steve is a star for himself. And he is good, very good indeed. He's doing a guitar solo on acoustic guitar with latin american touch, which touches our hearts and makes every guitarist in the audiance become jealous. On drums Bryan Tichy. A name in the business, but not yet in the whole wide average world. Same with Derek Sherinan. Tichy takes a guitar and Idol sits behind the drum kit like at Generation X times. And at the encore even sherinan exchanges his keyboard with a guitar. It's excellent. "Mony Mony" is the last song, (the original track is from Tommy James & The Shondells 1967, Billy Idol then recorded it in 1981, but first had a hit in 1987 with a live version). A great song, everybody knows.

At the grand finale, everbody is at the front and Billy is giving away CDs, t-shirts and frisbees to the audiance. Yes, that's how the fans love their star,  shining, glittering and still owning  a perfect shaped body. He's still a Rebell with his cheakc grin, and very close to his admirers. And once again, the famous sparkle has has jumped over at least 5.000 times. Yeah,..... this is Billy Idol - forever!
