Ende 12. Jh. - Die Grafen von Tirol bauen die Burg Lichtenberg zur Festigung ihrer Herrschaftsansprüche im oberen Vinschgau gegen die Bischöfe von Chur aus.
End of the 12th century, the earls of Tyrol had rebuilt the castle Lichtenberg into a fortress to defend their ownership 
towards the bishops of Chur.

1228 - Ein Ruprecht von Lichtenberg wird urkundlich erwähnt.
1228 - A certain Ruprecht of Lichtenberg is mentioned in the annals

1259 - Graf Meinhard II. von Tirol übergibt seiner Gemahlin Elisabeth Lichtenberg als Morgengabe.
1259 - Earl Meinhard II of Tyrol is presenting Lichtenberg as a moning gift to his wife Elisabeth

Ende 14. Jh. - Die Burg erlebt ihre Blütezeit. Es finden sich wiederholt Urkunden, die über die Belehnung der Herren von Lichtenberg mit der Burg durch die tiroler Landesfürsten berichten.
End of 14th century. The castle is having it's high times. There are several documents reporting of the lords of Lichtenberg


Anfang 15. Jh. - Die Brüder Christian und Daniel von Lichtenberg werden genannt.
Early 15th century - the brothers Christian and Daniel of Lichtenberg are mentioned

1429 - Nach dem Tod des Daniel von Lichtenberg fällt sein Anteil an der Burg an seine beiden Töchter, Verena, Frau des Johann Spaur, und Elisabeth, Frau des Eckart von Villanders. Durch einen Richterspruch in Bozen wird die Burg zwischen Christian von Lichtenberg, Verena von Spaur und Elisabeth von Villanders aufgeteilt. Trotzdem folgen jetzt lang anhaltende Erbstreitigkeiten.
1429 - After the death of Daniel of Lichtenberg his part of the castle goes to his two daughters, Verena, wife of Johann Spaur, and Elisabeth, wife of Eckart of Villanders. Due to a court decicion in Bolzano, the castle is split between Christian of Lichtenbert, Verena of Spaur and Elisabeth of Villanders. Although there is a long battle for heritance evolving.

1450 - Herzog Sigmund überlässt Lichtenberg seinen Günstlingen, den Gebrüdern Gradner, die bis zu ihrem Sturz 1456 die Burg innehaben.
1450 - Duke Sigmund leaves Lichtenberg to his mates and brothers Gradner, who own the castle until they fell in 1456

1462 - Auf Druck Kaiser Friedrichs III. beendet Herzog Sigmund den Rechtsstreit um Lichtenberg zu Gunsten der Spaur. Die Söhne von Verena erhalten die Burg als alleinige Besitzer zurück.
1462 - Because of a pressure put on by emperor Friedrich III, duke Sigmund ends the legal fight about Lichtenberg  in advantage for the Spaur's. The sons of Verena get the castle back.

1464 - Die Spaur werden in den Freiherrenstand erhoben und dürfen fortan das Wappen der Herren von Lichtenberg mit ihrem vereinen.
1464 - The Spaur are upgraded and are allowed to carry the coat of arms and combine it with the earls of Lichtenberg

1499 - Nach der Niederlage an der Calven kommt die Burg in Höchste Gefahr, kann sich aber halten.
1499 - After  the defeat at the Calven, the castle gets in serious trouble and danger, but it can survive.

1513 - Lichtenberg wird an die Herren von Khuen verkauft, die zunächst die Wehranlage mit dem Bau des großen Rondells modernisieren lassen. Die Burg dient als Hauptsitz der Familie.
1513 - Lichtenberg is sold to the earls of Khuen, who first of all rebuild the fortress in a modern way. The castle now is the main home of the family.

1560 - 1586 - Johann Jakob von Khuen-Belasi ist Erzbischof von Salzburg.
1560 - 1586 - Johann Jakob of Khuen-Belasi is arch bishop of Salzburg

1630 - Die Khuen-Belasi werden in den Reichsgrafenstand erhoben.
1630 - The Khuen-Belasi are upgraded to  Reichs - Lordship

um 1850 - Lichtenberg ist nicht mehr bewohnbar und der Verfall setzt ein.
around 1850 - Lichtenberg is not anymore inhabitable and starts to fall apart

1907 - Die berühmten Wandgemälde aus dem Palas werden abgelöst und nach Innsbruck gebracht.
1907 - The famous wall painting are removed from the Palas and brought to Innsbruck 

ab 1962 - Restaurierungsarbeiten des Denkmalamtes sollen den Bestand der Ruine sichern. Die Burg ist noch heute im Besitz der Familie Khuen-Belasi.
from 1962 - restauration work by the office for ancient monuments shall save the ruines of the castle. It is still owned by the family Khuen-Belasi
