.... and there I stood in the middle of Budapest/Hungary. Nobody spoke a word german or english and we almost got desperate on out way to find Victory - somehwere in Nirvana. This happened in 1991, shortly after I had returned from England for good. Since this occassion, I've seen this band only once again, about one year later here in Munich at the Theatre Factory. Swiss rocker Gotthard were supporting them. Today it would rather be the other way round, and Victory would have to support Gotthard. It's your own fault, beeiing such a long time away from the scene for whatever reasons..

Fact is, they are back again and even almost in the original line up. Yeah okay, let's name it the the soul and heart  of the band who is named Peter Knorn, Hermann Frank and Tommy Newton. It's great to have you back boys. Of course we don't want to forget to mention the next generation, drummer Achim Keller and singer Jiati Parchardies who immidiately get's abandoned because of his look and hairstyle from some fans here tonight, which I think is stubborn. It's sad that the acceptance depends more on the visual aspect than on the voice and the performance. And you honestly can't complain about that. Good heaven, please don't call the german hardrock fans cool and easy anymore, because to be honest they are all pretty much conservative and just wanna break out of the normal society with a look and a clichee but not accepting any compromising. Okay enough, otherwise I get killed by death at the next event.

Back to the scenery, where our lost - and found again sons do their best supporting headliner Metal Church. Songs like  ‚Don’t Tell No Lies’, Backseat Rider’, ‘Standing’ oder ‘On The Loose’ get ya' shaking along with, sorry headbanging of course. And the tooth of time, as we say so, has only bitten Hermanns hairstyle, but otherwise they haven't changed much - the soul and heart I mean.... I personally would have loved to hear a bit more from Victory's very first album 'Don't Get Mad - Get Even' from 1984, which is still  my favorite. Otherwise I've been positively suprised, apart from the rather weak accoustic maybe. And hopefully we have you back soon, next time maybe in the headliner position to set us checkmate - alright Peter....?!!!

Like before, I could dig in the past and tell you a story about Metal Church, which happened in London in 1990, when this band played a show at the legendary Marquee Club. I gotta mention, that english fans usually ignore supportacts. So at this night,  I and only about  15 other dudes were at the spot pretty early to catch the unknown supportact as well. And believe it or not, but this rejected band was none other then Metallica themselves, who just wanted to take everyone here by surprise and have a little fun. I presume, I don't have to say anything else, then just mention the fact, that you don't forget an almost private stint of Metallica for the rest of your lifetime. It was hilirous....

... and since then, I always get remembered about the Marquee Gig, whenever I see Metal Church playing live again. And not just me. Kurdt Vanderhoof is also left from this occassion. The rest of the guys here tonight, just know the story.
Compared to the past, the band presents themselves nowadays much more sophisticated and rather elegant apart from the usual long hair. No stut reflects a heavy metal logo shirt. They rather prefer a simple black outfit with a classical note. Only the boss still sticks to his almost grown on Bermudas oviously coming out of the Rock Hard fan shop. If we were in the ads business, it would be called hidden promotion. But I rather think, that the Rock Hard fashion line is just very suitable for the individual shape and hides too big bodyparts. Combined with white socks and sportsneakers, the sexy vision is almost complete. However Metal Church rock the house and 200 metalheads down, and some of these Die Hard- Concrete admirers start to get mixed up and think Jesus Christ is up there in their bavarian beer mood.
Jesus wept, some catholics could get something outta that to use for the prayer.. 'Watch The Children Pray' is a piece of music, which is almost exactly 20 years old - unbelievable, but true. And thanks to it's cultstatus, it still belongs to the live set of the group. It's a heavy slow number, which gives the otherwise fast and speeding tracks the right interruption and takes care for the famous edges. Over all you do find on Metal Church's setlist most of all songs from the first album ‚Metal Church’ 1984, and from the second one ‚The Dark’ 1986. No surprise though, 'cause those are the best records the band has have produced. -
In the end of the show - the usual one more song which is none other than 'Highway Star' - thanks to Deep Purple. Oh yeah, there is one more thing I wanna mention. We don't get very often such a Haute Couture posing like the one of Metal Church. Karl Lagerfeld would luv it. Me of course as well, and my camera is freaking out shooting 250 instead of the planned 100 pics. So what? Music is Music, but the eye wanna catch something from the cake as well. Both combined - even better.
