And that's what the german band Corvus Corax is doing by bringing us these nostalgic moments and a little clue of life in those times closer, thanks to their musical art and visual haute couture.
The ordinary raven crow bird must have played an important role. This bird still exists, but rather in the northern parts of the world. Within our area you find this specien not too often anymore. thousand years ago, it was probably the other way round. But we're not here for naturehistorical lesson. I just wanted to explain the latin word Corvus Corax  which means nothing else than colkraven. Our ravenbirds here are individual listening to the names of: 
Castus Rabensang - Gesang / Dudelsack / Binjou / Schalmei / Bombarde / Cister / Trumscheit / Drehleier,  Venustus Olere („Wim“) - Dudelsack / Schalmei / Zink, Tritonus der Teufel -  Dudelsack / Schalmei, Hatz – Schlagwerk,  Harmann der Drescher – Schlagwerk, Ardor vom Venushügel - Dudelsack / Schalmei / Trumscheit, Kalauer Davul / Pauke. It sounds much better, as the ordinary names of Wim, Norbert, Hinz and Kunz etc. etc. - doesn't it. Never mind. But alltogether they have only one thing on their minds, to show us the art of the middle age, somtimes pure, but also mixed up with one or the other experimental tune. 
Okay, I have met the guys of Corvus Corax before in person, but I by myself have never seen 'em playing live on a stage before... shame on me.....

Unfortunately it's only a 30 minutes stint  in the morning at 10 a.m. at the yearly Family happening of a german supermarket chain here in Munich. Sounds pretty stupid, doesn't it?! There is no middle age aura or atmosphere of course like in Kaltenberg, Bavaria, where this group is the partyband everytime at the yearly happening knights games, or however you call that in english. But however, this is still better than nothing at all. And our local daily newspaper makes it possible and brings this band and also some knights from Kaltenberg for a short visit over here... - for promotion of course in every way.  

Unfortunately most of the people here, are rather drawn to these huge tends hin the neighbourhood where there is a big sale out of all kinds of stuff than to the middle age performance of Corvus Corax. So in the beginning only about 50 people are gathered in front of the small stage to check out this curious looking artists. But during the show, fortunately some more souls are drawn to the scenery because of the unusal tunes and visual aspects. 
Yes true, the music of Corvus Corax is a matter of taste. And I am absolutely sure, that many people would see the show live on stage, but never put this kind of music in their CD player at home and listening to it. 

Although this faible for the middle age music is getting more and more popular lately over here and with the music also the bands named Schandmaul,  InExtremo, Subway To Sally, Haggard, and  Corvus Coras a.k.a. Tanzwut. Every single one of them says, that he does something totally different from the other. But unfortunately many of us innocent music listeners don't really recognize the fine differences.  Only Corvus Corax, who perform this music in it's truest and most original form, - at least I think so. Using 3 backpipes and some other funny and strange looking instruments those modern artists offer us a real amusing show with  this individual ancient music . But not only for our ears, but also for our eyes, exspecially the female one's we get some interesting view offered pushing our senses and phantasy !!! J))  oh la la....

Some knights from Kaltenberg finish the performance showing funny  predended fights to underline the average aura and atmosphere. And to repeat myself, the slogan over all is named Kaltenberg knights tournament, which has just started and goes on for about 2-3 weeks - every day. (watch infos shown above)  And it is definately worth a visit to check out life in the middle age and to see a full show of Corvus Corax. Because experiencing the event with the right surrounding, it will come along a thousand times better than here on this small ministage with newspaper ads in the back .

                                                                             

Whoever doesn't have the time to go to Kaltenberg, should watch out for other tourdates of the band named Corvus Corax or Tanzwut, which are the same guys, just performing a bit different ancient music. So you will get at least a bit of a clue of the past currently in 2006. And I promise, you won't get toothache by that, and if..... remember we got dentists today... Corvus Corax are definately not antique but up to date right now and very fashionable. .... And from 'Back to the Future we go to the slogan - 'Forward to the Past' - solong.....
