Now we got it! - the ultimate prove, that rockmusic of the past 35 years is still up to date. And that's not a question of trends, or a change of generations.Jimi Hendrix has risen up from the dead in form of three young australians, who were not even born in 1970. Wolfmother celebrate retro- 70s psychodelic rock in it's best condition. And they blast in like a nuclear bomb, exspecially on the young dudes aged under 20.
Who would have thought this. There they are dancing, beating each other up in the first rows and dive from stage like mad. Accompanied by a mixture of Hendrix meets Blue Öyster Cult and Led Zeppelin sound. First this event was planned for Munichs little Atomic Cafe, which fits in aprox. 150 people. Then it was transfered to another somehow bigger venue fitting 700 units. But on the very day it has been once more transferred to this venue here - sold out with 1.500 fans. Thank you MTV and Viva TV, who pushed up the hype around this group so much. Once more it is proved, that nobody takes something he doesn't know, when it is not presented the right way. And the music channels knew how to do this. It's all up to marketing, nothing else. The talent of the artists are important, but don't come in first place. Sad but true. Bet, if there were three aging but experienced musicians up there on stage, who woould play the same sound without ads, nobody was here.

But Wolfmother are young and motivated and marionettes of the allmighty industry. And .... they are good. Without big production, without a lot of fuss and glamour, they start their set, that you thought, the very first day is coming up. True, I do not like so much the voice of frontman and guitarist Andrew Stockdale, who is even a real Hendrix  look-a-like with his hairstyle. On bass and keyboard - Chris Ross, who is constantly unsure, whether he should rape on or the other instrument first. Only drummer Myles Heskett seems a bit lost in the background.

                                                                                                 Jimi Hendrix
                                                                                                                        same sound - same hairstyle

Im not sure, who is pushing up who, - the band - all those crazy fans, or the other way round. Nobody bothers, that the kids slowly drive nuts taking over the stage. At any other hardrockin' concert, there would be two securities right and left handside pulling off everybody, whod even just try to get close to the stage.Meanwhile the band is reaching their limits. It's almost a miracle, that there are no accidents happening.

Somehow the music comes second after a while. The power bites almost like concrete.
Unfortunately, thanks to the still pretty unknown songs, after the set, you can't really tell every single one from the next one. Wolfmother have one album out now, so there is not much of a choice on the setlist. But the kiddies don't care. They have gonne over their limit up to complete exhaustions and beyond. The only real victims tonight are once again we photographers, who, fearing for their lives, desperately try to get at least some decent shots.
Apart from that, I can only say: congratulation Wolfmother! The test is done, and we are happy, that we still got young bands, who carry the heritage of Jimi Boy towards the future and the next generation. Even, they might be once again just a matter of time, like usually nowadays...
Hope not.....
