Yeah, I know, I got the bad habit
to just ignore sometimes supportbands, and you surely have realised
this is the past. But there is a certain intention behind it, because
many of them are not even worth to mention because of a lack of
quality. But if one of these exceptions actually seems to have a huge
potential, then I will loose a word about them, no problem. And they
are really good, those boys from northern ireland with an average age
of aprox. 25 years old, existing as a band for already 6 years. And
their first record comes out in Germany just two days after this gig
here tonight. Thanks to this album, who I received earlier for
promotional work, I've got aware about "The Answer", and I
decided to check 'em out live as well.
Result: it is worth it
indeed.Visually the band rather reminds me on young behaved students
except the singer, who rather looks like a delayed relict of the
flower power era. But as it's said, oppositions are drawn to each
other, like it is here between the visual aspect and the sound.
Jesus wept, this lot here are excellent. No, I don't overdo it. It is
true. And I ask myself where have they been hiding themselves 'till
now. One thing is for sure, 'The Answer' belong in the same cathegory
like the australien group 'Wolfmother', - the next generation of 70s
retrorock bands.
A slight touch of Led Zeppelin
is laid above the melodies, same like the movements of the singer.
It's not that complex and difficult like their musical
granddads. And one more thing, which I personally luv at concerts in
general, is the fact of pulling the thing through without dot and
comma and not much talking inbetween. 'The Answer' are like this and
beat their Rock'n'Roll straight through the eye into to the still
hesitating audiance. But with each songs the crowd gets more
enthusiastic and step closer to the stage. Last but not least there is
a hell of a lot enthusiasm. Yep the test is done. And I can advice
everybody, who ain't here tonight, to check out their debutalbum. I'm
sure, when the boys return for a headliner tour in november, you all
will be there... bet ya'

And D.A.D. ??? Okay, let's see - they won't have an easy standing
after this support. And they don't. But not because of a maybe
comparison to the Answer, but rather because struggling with technical
problems like broken guitars and snaredrums. However, D.A.D. are long
engough in this business to handle this. For my taste the sets starts
a bit slow. Or does it just seem so after the exploding support?! I
don't know. But sure, - the danish band is still on the top, and pull
their stint through in the usual energetic way in the end. Jesper
Binzer's face expressions haven't changed over the years, and Stig
Pederson still finishes off his 2 string bass, dressed in a black
latex outfit. This is D.A.D. truly and honestly including the 2 string
bass. Never seen that one in any other band.
But however, the tunes leads the
music, and is absolutely right, apart from the usual venue acoustic
problems. It's Stig beeing the focus on stage and the mainpart of the
show sweating like a waterfall through the latex. He exchanges his
intrument to another one, which is stuck into a cruise missiles
costume. In the past this thing even used to fire some pyros from it's
back. But that's not happening anymore of whatsoever reasons. Stig
gets rid of his shirt, and some pairs of girlies eyes start to sparkle
at such a lot of masculine sight, without chesthair and no gramm
bodyfat. Okay, I have to mention this out of a female point of view.
But while Stig acts as the king of the stage, Jacob Binzer, Jesper's
younger brother, is the tower on the other side of the stage,
with his cool eyeglimpse and looking rather innocent (he is not, I can
asure you :-))) But he is an excellent guitarist, a very good one
indeed. He doesn't need to be a frontman or show too much obvious
selfconfidence. He is, like I mentioned before, just acting very
cool and relaxed...

New album, - yes of course....
it wants to be promoted, though it's not that new anymore. ‚Scare
Yourself’ came out quite a while ago. Meanwhile there is a same
titled DVD out filmed at last years Roskilde Festival and indoors in
Copenhagen. But it's the classic tunes, like 'Sleeping My Day Away',
of the best D.A.D. album ‚No Fuel Left For The Pilgrim’ ever in my
opinion, which make the show complete. One of my favorite tunes 'Evil
Twin' has made it on the setlist as well. The rest you can read on the
setlist below. Jesper presents us his german knowledge consisting only
of the word München and not much more. If I'd get an Euro for each
time he is saying this word, I could easily pay for a vacation on
Hawaii. . And Jesper gets an entry in the guinnessbook of records.
Twice D.A.D. has to come back
for one more song. But not for a third time like in Stuttgart
unfortunately. However, it is a very decent performance and 'The
Answer' still has got to work on themselves a bit to reach this level.
But no surprise, because of many years of experience and development
D.A.D. has got compared to the Youngsters. But I'm dead sure, that, if
the Answer keep themselves alive in today's musicbiz, then they will
be very big one day.
Solong....... und D.A.D. forever.....
