For this
review I've got stretch out a little.
You maybe know, that for about 3 months I've created a MySpace page in
addition to the big website, to put out musicmirror to an even broader
audiance. Whoever is familiar with MySpace knows how it works with
requesting, adding and linking each other, whether it's for friendship
or networking. So shortly after the musicmirror myspace page went online
I added myself with a rockband von L.A. I have never heard before off.
And I soon got a nice comment from the guy who runs the site.
It was so cheak, that it took care for an everlasting memory effect. I
wasn't sure, whether this should show the image of this band or it was
pure provocation. However I did and still do remember this band name:
And what shall I say, - faster than I thought, I'm now confronted with
this crazy bunch from L.A. here tonight in Munich, where they are
playing a supportslof for Papa Roach, - as they do on the the whole
tour. Yes, to be honest, they've got something about them. They are
young, wild and the sexual miming is more than challenging. For the
first time Bangkok Five plays Germany and try to catch a little from the
Papa Roach cake what's up to the general popularity. At first glimpse,
the band is mainly the frontman from the visual aspect, who maintains
the most part of the stage for himself. With an up to date very
fashionable haircut and a pair of Jeans, who seem to slip down his bum
every second, he pushes the audiance up with his energetic performance
and somehow instense aura. I must admit, I hardly ever have seen so many
arms up in the air and so much movement in the crowd at a supportbands
set.
Bangkok Five play a mixture of mainstream meets decent hardrock, but
very american. Nik Frost, that's the singer's name, jumps off stage and
lifts himself across the pit. He trys to include everybody near him into
his acting, even the security. To describe all those single songs here
wouldn'd make much sense, because 99% of the people here, didn't know 'em
'till this evening anyway, and all the rest still don't have a clue. But
you can have a listen to some sounds if your'e interested via their My
Space Page - or http://www.myspace.com/thebangkokfive
purchase it either at one of the gigs on this tour or the official
website of the band.

Three things
I got to know for sure tonight. First of all Nik seems to luv Calvin
Klein, thanks to his 'perfectly' fitting jeans half way down. Second,
this kids make real great music and third - it was Nik himself sending
me this saucy comment on my MySpace page then, - saying:
yeah....you're a crazzzzzy bitch!!! check out our tour dates and
let us know if you wanna come out to a show, we could probably hook you
up and you get laid :)
Don't worry, I gave him the right answer. And I'm deadly sure, that Nik
has checked his MySpace in the meantime for refreshing his memory.
I for my part can only say: thank you MySpace in every way. Because I
have discovered another great new band and have won a new friend, though
he probably could almost be my son..... - yeah almost.....maybe !
Enough of this here. Here they are - Papa Roach. And my god, they have
changed - in every way. They have become older of course, they look
better with longer hair, at least what's up to the bassist and the
guitarist, and beeing much slimmer, what's up to the singer, and most of
all, they have changed their musical style pretty much. And this my
friends, is a real surprise. Papa Roach are great. The Backstage is
boiling and the hurricane raging at Bangkok Five's set has even pushed
up to at least 4 more degrees. Just a quick word inbetween concerning
the venue for everybody who is not familiar with the local circumstances.
We got three Backstage venues right now. The Backstage Halle, to fit in
aprox. 700 fans, the Backstage Club fitting 250 units and the new
Backstage Werk just opposite the other street side, fitting 1.000
people. We are here in the first mentioned one - the Halle, and it is
bursting.
And
Papa Roach are showing us, in which direction the storm is blowing. Yes,
this is straight hardrock making no compromises. Almost immidiately my
mind is thinking about the comparison to our dead serious good old german
heavy metal bands, who play their slow rhythm heavy concrete without any
motion. But this here are four boys in the mid twenties or early thirties,
who also play a very heavy tune, but with a complete different attitude,
forcing us to a wild rock'n'Roll party. It's crazy, it's fun, it's simple,
it's driving you nuts, or better once again, the frontman is driving
you round the bent
I have to confess, that once again I got the feeling that a
musical change of generations is developing, slowly but it
definately is. Don't get me wrong though. There should be space of
everyone making good music, whether old or young. And I'm still the
biggest Steely Dan Fan of all times, because I think their musicianship is
the highest level you can get. And this guys are sixty and above.
But this kids here bring in so much fresh wind and energy into the genre.
And they have so much fun to play that you can feel the strong vibe.
Whereby Papa Roach already are on the run for quite a while now and are no
newcomer anymore.
Oh I hate it so much - this thinking in draws, as we say so. Music should
be universal, whether new or old or young, whatsoever. And most importnat
- it should be good. Although this here is the new generation of
rockmusic. And they sweap us away like - so what.... like a hurrican - I
mentioned before.
Thanks god there is a photopit tonight, which is very rare for this venue
here. Without it, this review probably would have never been written. Amen
- And I'm still alive.
Carry on with the good work, so this new Rock'n'Roll generation is kept
alive, won't ya'?!!!! |
