No, one thing is for sure, our good old concert venue - the philharmonic
hall does not experience such a thing every day. Or better not within
the last 21 years of it's existence. And I do not mean the musical
performance but the audiance, who consist of merely of all those Gothic
admirers in southern Germany. Smart paleness accompanied by black in
black shades are dominating the posh atmosphere. In the foyer we
get drinks an salmon sandwiches offered. But this audiance tonight is
not that keen about this. They are rather used to a more simple crypt to
celebrate their dark music. But thanks god, also some average people
like me who just wanna hear good music, have found the way here, and we
don't wanna pray a black mass. However you can realize, that the
beauties of the night are somehow happy to have found a suitable
possibillity to wear their Haute Couture noir. And they feel well
between all those other grytpkeepers. It's fun to watch 'em. And for the
artists it is more or less a kind of stylistic brand to push them even
more into the musical gothic scenery.
Whereby, I have to admit, that the image of 'Deine Lakaien' is most of all
depending on the visual aspect of Alexander Veljanov and his dark
beautiful voice, to get it to the point. The first prove for this comes
along, when Ernst Horn, the other half of the lakaien steps on stage, and
the reaction of the audiance is as strong as a silence minute for passed
away mother in laws. Whereby he is actually the spiritual and musical head
of the band, who's got the lead in his hands. Maybe he should wear his
glasses on stage as well, to make him more looking sophisticated and
intellectual. At least I think so. Or maybe putting 10 pounds weight on,
so his suit fit even better. No gothic flair at all. But that's okay so.
And here comes Alex, the second part of Deine Lakaien, the style icon. Not
just because of his voice but also because of his extraordinary hairstyle,
which is done like a Lakaien hat in past times. I really would luv to know,
how long it takes to get his hair like this and how much hairspray he
needs. But as I've been told in the past, Alex doesn't like this to be
asked. so I actually never did.
These two guys are two totally different individuals, but go very well
together. One is mixing the content and baking the cake. The other puts
the icing on top, if you know what I mean by that. But this time it's not
only them, but also a whole orchestra to combine into the party. It's not
easy, but Ernst takes the challenge and directs all these classical
musicians in the right position. By doing that, he works out like an
athletics between keyboard, Computer and piano moving around nonstop
within 1 1/2 hours before the break and 1 1/2 hours afterwards. Respect,
at least now I know, why Ernst still seems so youthful. Alexander rather
takes the slow motion concentrating on his singing. This belongs to the
melancholic drive and clichee of this music. Or course, Deine Lakaine have
brought in their bassplayer and guitarist as well. And on top of it two
females, who take care for even more change on stage by handling
additional voices, violins and keys.
And when the electronic sounds won't do what Ernst wants 'em to do and he
is trying hard to get it straight again, then Alex takes care for some
funny moments. Like for instance an often repeated - Mindmachine!!!
However, this here is one time more 'Deine Lakaien', a little different
than the usual way, but nevertheless rather interesting and worth for a
new experience. Yes, there are standing ovations in the end for one more
song. And we get it of course. So everybody is pleased in the end,
including all those gothic people as well as we average concert visitors.
The black clothes and robes have had another chance to get worn and seen
by others, and now will return to the cupboard 'till next time. to
another suitable event. For my part I have honestly enjoyed the orchestral
experiment, although I do not have a lot in common with all these girls
and guys in black. It was a musical dish, we had to consume with high
concentration to get touched by the right nerv. With a little
interest and beeing open for more than just music, you certainly will like
this art form. Congratulation and well done.
Anyway, I'm looking forward for the next time 'Deine Lakaien' - pure again.....
