... and once again a possibillity to swim away on a nostalgic wave.
Because it's more than 20 years ago, that Kim Wilde had been on the peak
of her success with Easy Listening popsongs. And even, you all out there,
who are not much into popmusic, though you all know Kim's biggest
smashhit 'Kids IN America'. You just couldn't ignore that song then.
After that, some other hitsingles came along, like 'Cambodia' or 'View
From A Bridge'. But 'The Kids...' always stayed the biggest success.
For a long time it has been pretty quiet around the blonde english
singer. According to her own information, she spent her time raising up
two kids. But of course it has also been the changes of times and the
lack of record sales. Only her Compilation alum "The Singles
Collection" sold some million times again and showed, that those
glory eighties songs still have a great fanbase. The studied landscape
gardener then hosted some brit. TV programs about the subject gardening
and wrote countless articles for various magazines. In april 2005 she
published a book entitled 'Gardening For Children'. But it was 2001,
when she came back with a new single 'Loved' - with not too much success,
at least over here in Germany.
Two
years ago Kim Wilde got together with german popsinger Nena doing a duet
with the single „Irgendwie, Irgendwo, Irgendwann’ (Anytime, Anyplace,
Anywhere', and she went back into the limelight. She used the opportunity
to jump back on the trail again. And last sept. her new album 'Never Say
Never' came out including six old tracks - rereleased and eight new songs.
Around 800 fans have come here tonight in Munich to check out, whether Kim
Wilde is still the same, who she was in the eighties. Surprisingly more
than half of the audiance is male. The gig starts at quarter past 8 p.m.
without a supportband. And for her 46 years of age, Kim is still looking
great. Yeah maybe she ain't that slim anymore, but apart from that, she
doesn't seem much to have become older. She's taking the stage by storm,
starting off with 'Chequered Love'. By the way, the band she is
accompanied by, is a so called, - almost family business, most of all
still including her brother Ricky, who's always been on her side anyway.
On bass - Nick Bates von Kajagoogoo. - The mood is rising, and soon
she has all those fans here on her side with this Greatest Hits package,
including also a hommage at Level 42 (see setlist) and most of all the
encore 'Kids In America'.
Yes, you can really feel, that the fans have grown with her. And they do
still like it very much as you can see on the enthusiastic reaction and
devotion. A great start for a new era for Kim. - Like I said before - easy
listening pop entertainment, not too much demanding, but with a high
memory aspect.
