The new Generation of Rock’n’Roll Bands
rolls over Germany again. This time it's Black Stone Cherry from Kentucky
and Hinder from Oklahoma. The average age of these boys is 25, and they
are over motivated and full of energy. Most of all, because it's the first
time here in Europe for both of them.
But while Hinder, at least what's up to their name,
already somehow known over here, the other one's - Black Stone Cherry - we
have never heard of before. How should we anyway? They just came out of
their small town named Edmonton in Kentucky and try their luck in the biz.
The first goal they have reached yet, by getting a deal with Roadrunner
Records putting out one selftitled album. You can realize they come from
the southern states in America with their love for the Blues. But also a
certain tendency for Led Zeppelin you can feel when listening to their
music. Playing live goes almost to physical exhaustion... Jesus wept, the
condition of the guys is huge.
Most of all their drummer,
who's an real animal drumming with the devil. Even I have to commit, that
I haven't seen anything like it hardly ever before. But like I mentioned
before, beeing in their early twenties, they've got all the energy of
their entire lifes you possibly can have.
Oh yes, before I forget, Exept the drummer, their is a guitarist, who is
21, but looks like 16, and we've got a singer here with a great voice and
who obviously luv's good food. Only the bassist, who seems to be the
leader somehow, keeps himself a bit in the back.
However, Black Stone Cherry's music is impulsive and well done for a
start. Certain breaks and edges gives the performance the neccessary
exitiment and it never gets any boring. And so I could easily imagine,
that within a few years, with a bit more experience, even more effort and
a bit of luck, Black Stone Cherry will belong to the international
establishment. They've got all the time in the world yet..... So please
boys go out and doe something about it.

... and witht he stars of tonight, we got once again
a typical example of a young rockband from the new continent, who reached
a very quick success with only one Single hit named 'Lips Of An Angel' in
the US. They've been hyped by the media and so the expectations are of
course astronomically high.
Hinder are going for about 5 years now and were founded back in 2002 in
Oklahoma City. There is:
Austin Winkler
(voc), Mark King (Git), Joe
‚Blower’ Garvey (Git), Mike Rodden (Bass) und Cody Hanson (Drums).
First they put out an EP 'Far From Close', which sold about 5.000 times.
'Extreme Behavior' was the album. Two singles were taken from this
longplayer, whereby the second one was the one, which brought those boys
the big break through. Hinder developed to the second best sold act in the
USA: The question now is, whether this immidiate success has a positive go
on them or not.
The
band itselves, knows the fact, that over here in Europe, they've gotta
play small venues with much less audiance than in the states. In Munich
here it's the Ampere Club with aprox. 150 mainly young fans. Although they
put up a barriere, if it was Fort Knox up there. Apart from that, the
order is, no pics be taken - even with the smallest camera, unless you've
got a photopass. If you still do so, then the security makes you to
destroy those pics in front of them and then throw you out. Whereby I'm
sure, this order didn't come from the band, but from a "very
important" manager, who put on the same rules here as in the US.
Hinder's success in the states is easily explained,
when listening to their music. Because their tunes are very much
commercial - music for everyone, nothing exiting, nothing extraordinary
and even a bit monotonous. No edges and cuts like the music of the
supportact has, but a very straight line. In fact, it's so straight, that
after the show, you can't definy one single tune out of the set, except
the hitsingle which is honoured by some enthusiasm from the audiance. But
otherwise, this here is an average performance without highlights and
depths and with much similarity to Aerosmith and Guns'n'Roses, who are
according to the boys, their idols. And they've got a very handsome
frontman, who gives 'em another point, at least what's up to all the
female fans.
In the end and over all I'm coming to the fazit, that the first band from
Kentucky has certainly got more talent for hopefully a great further
development in the futre, while Hinder had a more than lucky start with
one song, and they might belong to those artists, who disappear as fast as
they came up, because of the commercial aspect.
Okay, I don't wann be mean and I wish them all the best as well. And maybe
I'm wrong, and they are the superstars of tomorrow. - Let's talk again in
two or three years....
