Can one of you out there remember the song 'How Long', the big hit of the band Ace in the seventies? Maybe not straight away, but I bet, when you hear the melody, then most of you will react with an astonished ahhhh or ohhh yes - I know that. Paul Carrack was the singer of this band. Later on he changed to Frankie Miller's group and after that he came in for Jools Holland in Squeeze. But his real great reputation the english musician  received with Mike & the Mechanics, the side project of Genesis guitarist Mike Rutherford.
"Silent Running (On Dangerous Ground)" and "The Living Years" became worldwide hit singles. Beside this Paul never forgot to follow his solo path. "Don't Shed A Tear" from 1987 is still his biggest solo success so far. Although Paul is known in musicians circles as one of the very best vocalists ever, he has always been very much underrated and never recieved the notice he'd deserve.
Since Rutherford is busy again with Genesis, Mike and The Mechanics have been put on ice anyway. So once again, Paul Carrack put together a threesome for a solo clubtour, which leads him like always to Germany. Because over here, the 56 year old is somehow at least a bit of a name for high quality music and vocal art.

The Ampere club in Munich is well filled including quite a few known faces from the Munich Musician scene. The gig starts on time without support at 8.30 p.m.
which suits me very well, because next door - same building Tanzwut (another german Rockband) sie playing as well - but with support. They go on at 9.30 p.m. So I got one hour to stay here at Paul Carrack and then will change over to the other gig thanks to those two close locations.
Carrack doesn't loose many words and starts off with the song 'Whenever'. Nice smooth popmusic, that's how to describe his music best. Melodies for everybody with lots of harmony  and underlined with Carracks great voice. He doesn't waste many words between the tracks and rather let's the music do the talking. Of course all these great Mechanics hits are coming up like „Another Cup of Coffee’, Livin’ Years’  and yes 'How Long' from Ace.
200 people luv it and ask for more. By the way, Paul Carrack plays in two sets with a small break inbetween. Whereby I do not survive the end of the second set, because I've gotta leave fot the other show - same building, different venue. But once again and to repeat myself, Paul Carrack once again has convinced us all that he is still an upper class singer and performer, much too good for this small place. He'd deserve a much broughter audiance indeed thanks to his huge talent. What a pity.....
