Jesus wept.... again and again, whenever I experience this phenomen, like tonight again in our good old Elserhalle. Which phenomen? Okay let me explain briefly the same way I did already at the Eagles of Death Metal gig in feb. There is a place completely sold out 'till the very last spot, and the audiance, consisting of 99,9% hardcore fans has an average age of 16 - 22 years young. And those kids cheer up a band, which has been founded, when many of those admirers were still not even born yet.  I mean, that's nothing new. I also luv the Beatles and the Rolling Stones, who started out before I was born...
But first of all - times have changed, and the young generation rather go for pop- and rockstars their ages, where they can feel related to them. And 2) those groups are no inventing cultbands like the eternal existing Stones. Point 3 is the question, what makes bands of this young category so special. This here is nothing else than commercial Hardrock mixed up with Punk, nothing special really. But maybe the commerce withing the hard punkrock creates the hype, who knows. Songs which stick in your ears, songs suitable to sing along with. This is it, what the average young fan luvs rather than complicated excentric guitar art complication.

Apart from that, our norwegina Turbo Neger are pretty funny, most of all singer Hank, who presents us proudly his nice shape, most of all the beer belly and the colourful make up. Everything has been here before, nothing new, but still an abolute focus. In 2005 Hank was voted as the most attractive norwegian from one magazine up there, believe it or not. Also the rest of the Gang is quite noticable. The gig shoots off, and the battle of Waterloo breaks out. Unfortunately I was too late for a photopass accreditation. This what you see here, is only a desperate  try to catch at least some poor impressions with my little compact camera. So please apologize me because of the pics lack of quality. Like we say over here: better this, than nothing.

Do you actually know where the name Turbo Negro comes from? It orginally is supposed to represent a rich black guy with a huge penis driving a fast Ferrari car. Originally the band wanted to name themselves Nazipenis. But they have been told that this name wouldn't be so good for marketing strategy.
However, Turbo Negro, who actually name themselves Turbo Neger in their country, are going for quite a few years now and have release some albums so far. But first during the last time, this band has risen up to an overdimensional popularity, exspecially in the US.
To get back to my analysis. What is so special about this band to make all the youngsters get mad. I for my part can not recognize anything special. Like I said before - straight hardrocking punk with not much show but lots of make up. Nothing new and always there this style. The official fanclub is named Turbojugend and counts 10.000s of members. Their sign is the blue jacket with the white slogan and the white seaman's hat. Hundrets are here tonight and celebrate their heroes. And they do it very hard. So hard, that I have to jump backwards out of the crowd in the back, not to get squashed. It's raining Turb Negro Zillions, and the kids are beating up each other for those beloved fancy money.

Hoever, for my taste, Turbo Negro is an average punkrock band, like menitioned before, simple, straight and great to sing along with. And the sound is repeating itselves in it's structure. That's why you can realize a certain monotony occassionally.
Yep, it was alright, but it didn't let me explode in enthusiasm, compared to the 1.500 maniacs. That's why I rather keep neutral and go for: it's good for whoever likes it....  PS: by the way - the new studioalbum 'Retox' comes out june 16.
