okay, before
95% of you are gonna ask - who the hell is that? I wanna mention in the
beginning, that this very new band is actually not that unknown. At least
two members we all know from the past. There is Perry Farrell, the
ex-singer of Janes Addiction and Porno of Pyros, the man who invented the
Lollapozza Festival, and he does a lot for environment and human rights.
And second there is guitarist Nuno Bettencourt of Extreme. Yes I knew it,
now you look wiser than before. And I can asure you, Perry is still the
funny bird as he's always been and Nuno plays as brilliant guitar as he
still looks like. Holy shit, even 17 years after Extreme's wedding he is
still every girl's dream.....
Just kiddin'....
Satellite Party have just
started out here in Europe where their debut album 'Ultra Payloaded' has
just been released. Also in the band is Etty Farrell, Perry's beloved wife,
who actually comes from Hongkong and is very pretty. Carl Restivo plays
the bass and on drums - Kevin Figueiredo. And they've got a female
keyboardist from Canada. I didn't catch her name - sorry.
Because of the lack of popularity so far, the audiance ain't very big
tonight. There are only insiders, and Jane's Addiction and Extreme fans,
who know exactly, who's standing behind the name Satellite Party. The
concert is going ahead in the smaller gig and not like planned in the
bigger venue opposite door. But at least with aprox. 150 people the club
seems well filled. There is no supportact and the band hits the stage at
strike 9 p.m. and the start through with a well played mixture of
alternative, Rock'n'Roll with some independend vibes, - pretty interesting,
a little crazy but very professionall.
Perry Farrell is showing all his talent as an entertainer, who moves across
the stage like a crazy bumble bee. He looks great within his fancy costume
but also very skinny. And there is his voice, which is still as it always
used to be in a positive sense. Nuno Bettencourt, dressed up in neat
designer clothes, shows that he got the right reputation as guitarist. Well
done boy! When I look at him, I get the impression that time has
forgotten on him. He doesn't look much different then in the high times of
Extreme. Only the hair has got a bit shorter. And yes, I've gotta say that,
Nuno is definately the fastest chatterbox in Rock'n'Roll - fortunately only
off stage. On stage he only lets his six strings do the talking. Etty takes
also care about the visual aspect, and hey, this woman can sing as well. And
that both Farrell's do luv each other is very obvious.
Satellite Party
work themselves through their new bible, fronted by the single a ‚Wish Upon A Dog Star’,
- a great tune by the way.
But what I
like most about those guys is the fact, that although Farrell and
Bettencourt have move on a much higher popularity level in the past, they
don't hesitate to make a complete new start again. And the musical
encouragement in front of 150 fans is about the same, like there would have
been 5.000 kids.
Sometimes we get a little too much overload from the boxes, but apart from
that, there is nothing to complain about this 90 minutes performance here
including the encore in the full set. So let's hope, that Satellite Party
will last for a little longer. And next time coming over here, they play a
bigger venue in front of a bigger audiance.
I wish you much luck for the future guys and hope to see ya' soon again....
