Oldies are Goldies, it's generally said. And yep there's something true about it. Which doesn't mean, that every song before 1990 is a Goldie. Because we got tons of music from the past, we just can't hear anymore, because they are out of fashion and trend. But there are also tunes, which sound as fresh and new and good even after 20 or 30 years. They sound, as if they've just been written. And that's exactly, what we got here, the songs of O.M.D. or better Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark.
19 years Andy McCluskey and Paul Humpghres did not communicate in that way, although both have not been lazy doing nothing. McCluskey still went on under the name O.M.D. with different musicians - 'till 1998. Then this chapter was finished as well. In the year 2005 O.M.D. in the line up Andy McCluskey, Paul Humphreys, Malcolm Holmes and Stuart Kershaw came together again for one appearance at the german TV Show - The Ultimate Chartshow - The most successful artists of the Eighties. And within an interview then, both Mc Cluskey and Humphres said, they will keep going on again.

Past december both guys appeared at the Nokia Night Of The Proms tour  and have proved, that they are still up to date. Now it's been time to play  full concerts again in the origial line up Andy McCluskey, Paul Humphreys, Mal Holmes and Martin Cooper. The slogan is the  Architecture & Morality tour. Which is also the title of their third album from 1981.

The Music Arena at the Tollwood Festival here in Munich is well crowded with aprox. 2.500 fans. Those fans consist mainly of people, who have known and luved O.M.D. already in the Eighties. And after not only five minutes it is for sure, that time has almost past without a trace on the meanwhile  mid fourty boys. Andy McCluskey seems to have not changed at all visually... yeah maybe when you see him in a close up you'll discover some fine lines, time has put into his face. But physically and also what's up to the voice it is still the same and great as ever.
Starting off the set without supportact in advance, but with the Tour-Slogan ‚Architecture & Morality’ a time journey is going ahead to the past, and they do so well combining it with the flavour of the present. Everything is included  Maid of Orleans  ‚Talking Loud & Clear’, ‚Seven Seas’ and also my personal favorite song Walking The Milky Way’.  Paul Humphres takes over the vocals occassionally, but most of the time it's Andy playing the front role.

Yeesssss, this is very nice indeed!!! And the band gets what the deserve - a lot of affection and applause from an truly enthusiastic crowd. I'd never  thought about so much love. The vibe is enourmous and the audiance gets so wild, that some other bands would probably become jealous about all this.
This is high class synthie pop and New Wave. And like I mentioned in the beginning, the music still sounds fashionable up to date and goes with the current trend. So let's hope, O.M.D. get this chance now for a second spring. No midlife crisis in sight.
Well done Boys. For me and my part you could have easily played another two hours. The  time travelling has just begun, and I wish you a great never ending journey into the future,...... yeah okay.... at least for the next few years and a bit longer....http://www.omd.uk.com/
