...and
yes, I do listen to music of Chick Corea and the Petshop Boys, John Lee
Holler and Bootsy Collins. Which doesn't mean, that I don't come here
tonight in our beloved Backstage temple to check out Max Cavalera &
Co. Just to admit it all over again, there is really only two kinds of
music - good and bad one. Everything else is a matter of the individual
taste and an openminded interest for new and different stuff.
Yiipppiieehh Max gets the place shaking again with such a lot of
power, that the battle of rome is a seniors teaparty - compared to this
here.
1 = um 2 = dois 3 =
tręs that's how every second songs starts off with, shooting out to
this thrashmetal culture freaks faster than the speed of sound.
Sold out is the slogan, which means about 1.200 bavarian lovers of
brasilian folkmusic ala' Soulfly.
Support
comes from Hämatom,
a german Metalband, who I missed partly because of my delay. But what
ever I caught of this set, sounded rather interesting.
At least one good
thing is expecting me here this evening. It's the fact, that there is
only one supportact and not half a dozens, like so often at events of
that kind in the past. As a photographer usually you are responsible for
the mainact. But because you never know, when the headliner is going on
stage exactly, you'd rather be early just to make sure. And then you
discover horrofied, that there will be three or even four supportacts 'till
you working time starts. I mean, there is always one or the other
supportact, who I discover for myself. But like I mentioned before, one
of those supporters would be enough for me, - actually exspecially for
me, as I am almost fit for the guiness book of records what's up to the
amount of concerts every year.
However tonight I'm lucky with only two bands on the whole, and at 9.45
p.m. Maximiliano, Antonio Cavalero and his Soulflys are entering
the stage to spoil us with their smooth melodies of brasilian
thrashmetal art. And.... to celebrate their 10th anniversary.
Holy
shit, it's almost unbelievable, how fast time goes by.
Next to Max is guitarist Marc Rizzo and bassist Bobby Burns and on the
drums in the background Joe Nunez takes care of the neccessary swing.
Like always Max sings about his view of the world and point zero mood
into his stylish made up microphone including a gasmask and some straws.
Suitably the current album is entitled 'Dark Ages', which came out in
march 2005. And by the way, the brazilian native kid is also a trendsetter
with his Bob Marley dreadlock hairstyle. I've spotted at least 3 dozens
of fans having the same. So what? Bob Marley is god for Max, and Max is
god for the rest of the world..... yeah almost!

And
you won't believe it, but after some time within the high energy
thunderstorm of southamerican soundclouds, suddenly there is some softer
guitar tunes in a true latin style, produced by guitarist Marc Rizzo,
who shows, that he truly is some talent on his instrument. The boss
himself does not use the E and H string on his guitar, that why he calls
it his guitar "4-Stringz", just to mention it on th edge. You
can't make it our really anyway at this kind of chamber concert. Oh, and
before I forget, it is still a Cavalera family business, so shown on
stage inbetween. Nice break as well as the drum solos of guitarist,
bassist and singer with the help of a fan in their golden centerfold.
Fact is, the brazilian raindance has been transferred into the Backstage
Werk and takes care for flying bodies and steaming, sweaty clouds and
freaked out crowd. Max shouts out his message with all his possible
power and in his best english, but nobody really understands a word,
what he's talking about in his songs. Who cares, because up there it's
him, it's Max with his dreadlocks and his toothhole (and I think, he's
got that one for a long time, even back in 1989, when I saw him first
time live on stage at the Marquee Club in London, England.) But as we
say so, brands are there to make somebody individually.including a
special aura and beauty. And Max wouldn't be Max without his beloved
toothhole. It's as easy as that.
End is good, everything is good and the success talks for itselves and
lets us hope for more music and developement from the amazonas jungle.
First of all, there is a new project with his brother Igor in the
plans,and then we wait and see, when hopefully it'll be again..1 = um 2 = dois 3 = tręs
