Just in time for the 30th anniversary, Sting, Stewart Copland and Andy Summers have gathered again to reactivate their post-punk-new-wave project - The Police. Whereby it has to be said, that it's never been a continuing carriere over all three decades, but rather a sort of reunion of a legend, which had been almost killed from the solo carrieres of the musicians. Only now and then for special occassions the threesome came together again. But at the Grammy Awards 2007 on feb. 12. finally - The Police announced their official reunion to the world of music..

Compared to many other Punk- and Wavebands of these times, the members of The Police are great musicians. With their mixture of Pop, Rock, Reggae, Ska, a little Jazz and even some worldmusic they have created this band, who became so individuall. And of course their is Stings unusal singing, which surrounds 3 octaves and give him and the music of The Police a special brand.

Overall the band has recorded five studioalbums. 1978 – „Outlandos d'Amour“ (November 1978)  1979 – „Reggatta De Blanc“ (Oktober 1979)  1980 – „Zenyatta Mondatta“ (Oktober 1980)  1981 – „Ghost In The Machine“ (Oktober 1981)  1983 – „Synchronicity“ (Juni 1983). In addition we got dozens of compilations, Singles,Videos, DVDs, Movies and even Books. And four of the five mentioned studioalbums became No. One's in the charts. That's a brief resum of a band, who surely helped to write music history.

The Reunion was celebrated with a lot fuzz, not with a new album, but with the fact, that Sting, Andy and Stewart have really found together again for good after all those years.
One of these stop overs of the current worldtour is our Olympic Stadion here in Munich, and it is not sold out. There are 45.000 of 60.000 tickets purchased. And you can realize it because of many empty seats up there. Maybe because this very day, the worldfamous Octoberfest has started today as well. And many people have prefered to spend this warm and sunny day and evening rather with a mass of beer in one of those tends on the Fest.
Or did the high ticket prices up to 120,- - Euros frighten fans off, who spent their money already on vacation.
However the arena is devided in several sections, and the security takes care, that no frog does an unexpected jump across one of those barriers.
Early birds are the winners, as it's said. And after supportact Ficitonplane, the band of Sting's son Joe Sumner did their job, (the similarity to Daddy is impressing) - the magic starts at 8.15 p.m. with the 'Message In A Bottle' and three elderly guys, who have left their midlife crisis behind. Whereby you've got to give Sting that much, that he kept himself very well in shape for 55 years of age. His youthful aura is underlined by a slim and well trained figure and his typical spikey hairstyle. Not so his two collegues Summers and Copeland, who show the tooth of time. The Police still show purism. Three musicians, three instruments and that's it. Only the big lightshow and those overdimensional screens prove, that this is one of those  mega events.

The setlist reads like who is who, or better - what is what on songs, who are known to everybody to sing along with. It's a Greates Hits package with no big changes. The true Police fan twitters to ‚Don’t Stand So Close’ oder ‚DeDoDoDoDeDaDaDa’ and spreads a tear to 'Roxanne'. Sting increases this affection of the fans with a few german statements inbetween.
And like the show has started, it also ends after exactly 15 Songs, one encore including 4 more tracks which is - again - exactly 90 minutes. The result of this event is last but not least a De ja vu with a high nostalgic level, performed by some brilliant musicians, who present their average but so well known pop songs with a monotone routine. But I'm pretty sure, every Police fan is highly satisfied by that. For us music lovers and media people it has been okay, but to be honest nothing really special and most of all - not worth a 120 Euros.
But let's wait and see, what's going on after this world tour.
At least all those old cult bands from the past, who have reformed lately or just came back on tour, guarantee, that the musicbiz will survive, because they are a guarantee by themselves.
