... and here we
got these typical - New Generation Rockband. Because of the fact, that the
200 fans, who are here tonight are not older than aprox. 25, shows us,
that this band is not much older. To geht it straight, all those kids
could be literatually my children. Thanks god they are not. And I try my
best not to stand out of this youthful Rock'n'Roll party. Just kiddin' -
but as you know - you always are as old/young as you feel like. . And
tonight I feel somehow young again. Starting off with support act 'Revolution Mother' from California...... most of all singer Mike Vallely, who is already a star in his home county Long Beach as a skater. With their debutalbum 'Glory Bound' in the luggage, this band has come to Europe for the very first time. My first impression of this crazy bunch is rather twisted. Not that young anymore as the headliner, the americans represent themselves as a mixture of boney stonerrockers and metallic nutcases including a ZZ-Top double and Cowboy nostalgica. There is some hesitation first in the audiance, which disappears rather slowly. It's getting loose right at the moment, when singer and guitarist jump into the audiance to push 'em up a bit. They certainly get some
attention at all those kiddies here, who of course came here because
of Funeral For A Friend in first place. I must admit, I do like what they
are doing 'till a certain content. No more no less. Although it's written in
every biography of this band, I repeat the fact here, that this welsh band
did not get their name from the famous Elton John song, but rather for a
track of the US hardcore punk band 'Planes Mistaken For Stars'. Next to the rather poor audiance, also the sound ain't perfect. The soundengineer does not see the signs from stage, so the boys get it straight, and bassist Garreth leaves the stage while still playing and walks throughout the audiance to the back to get the good man's attention. This happens so quickly, that most fans don't even realise. - I coincidentally just stand right in the way. Surely Funeral For A Friend
ain't bad at all. Maybe they just need to catch up with a bit more
experience and skills. Apart from that, it is only a question of time and
trends, which will decide their existence. |
