a truly funny name! But this is not only the name of the english garage rock Band, but also the name of a southafrican soccer club from Johannesburg. And that's the one, the Kaiser Chiefs have borrowed it from. Only one letter has been exchanged, and that's the s for z in Kaiser. No it ain't no mistake, because the name sound rather interesting and pretty unusal. The band is going since 2003. But over here in Germany they shot to fame first this year with their hitsingle 'Ruby' and reached pos 11 in the charts. In England the song went even to no.1. The Kaiser Chiefs got two albums out so far. It's 'Emplyment' from 2005 and 'Your's Truly,Angry Mob' from this year. Supporting U2 on their tour and the appearance at this year's Rock am Ring Festival helped them a lot to become popular outside England. However, now the band is doing their own headliner tour and gets a lot of attention everywhere. Support comes from two newcomers. First there is Jakobinarina from Island, who just stepped off with their debutalbum 'The First Crusade'. Another fact is, that
none of the six boys is over 20 years old. But for that, they rather
seem pretty selfconfident - respekt! And they certainly do get some
reaction from the audiance, who's first 10 rows are aprox.the same age
like the band. No, don't worry, we haven't got one of those typical
teenie boy bands here, with a lot of screaming. The arms are in the air,
and there is some noise, but the general devotion is restricted. Occassionally they
get compared with the Smashing Pumpkins. And yes, there's something
about it. Though these four guys and one woman have got this special
little something and have kept their individuality. With a lot of energy
the present their music from one EP "Pikul"
and the debutalbum 'Carnavas'. The focus is the energetic frontman Brian
Aubert, An animal of a drummer and a female bassist named Nikki
Monninger, who also shares the vocals. They did have a smaller hit in
the alternative scene with 'Lazy Eye' which brought them an appearance
in the David Letterman Show. .... and England storms the front in each and every way. The Kaiser Chiefs are up there, fronted by singer Ricky Wilson. Jesus wept, this boy got not only one, but a 100.000 wasp in his butt. He ain't standing on one spot for a single seconds, while his breath fights with his vocal chords. That's the youthful energy, without question. He's seeking the constant contact to the audiance, jumps from stage to be even closer to his fans. And this kind of indierock goes very well down on the kids in here. Those are all songs, which stick in your ear with a guaranteed sing along factor. Of course there is one
song which definately ain't missing, the song, the Kaiser Chiefs shot to
fame in Germany - 'Ruby'. A commercial piece of music, which is played
on radio up and down in this country. Later on during the set, Wilson
once again jumps into the audiance, and gets carried through the whole
venue from the front into the very back and back again to the front and
stage. He jumps down from a high amp and rolls over. This is a huge
party with a great mood and aprox. 3.500 fans. And once again I'm
relieved, that here we got another real great young band, who hopefully
will be around for a long time within this fast living musicbiz. |
