... The Porcupinetree for the... fourth time - for me here in Munich. And for the fourth time I ask myself, why the ever youthful looking Steven Wilson always goes barefoot on stage. Is it a better physical feeling or a life attitude? We'll never get to know that I presume, but it doesn't really matter, does it?! Fact is, it jumps into my eye, next to the screen in the back, showing all those colourful psychodelic pictures. The band rather looks pretty normal. five average looking guys, who seem nice and neat, but also seem not to care a lot about image care, because their focus lies on the instrumental aspect.

Not so their mates from Anathema, who doing the supportslot trying to push some kind of intellect. But also to impress all ladies in the audiance with a good look and long angel curls. You can't deny the posing. Unfortunately I'm late again, and all I caught up with the english group with the greek name, which means as much as - a ban from church - are the last two songs. The Brits describe their style as Doom Metal with a touch alternative rock. Hmmm... I don't know really, if I catch up with that. My impression of those two songs is, that Anathema are not bad musicians at all, but somehow I miss the special little something. To get it straight - the chilly in the arse. And those angelcurls and posing don't help. To be honest, I had enough with these two songs. But to say so - it doesn't mean, it's bad. It's just a bit boring all together.

Porcupine Tree are: Mastermind Steven Wilson, John Wesley (git),  Richard Barbieri (keyboards), Colin Edwin (bass) and Gavin Harrison (drums). But we know that anyway, don't we. The fivesome had been in Munich already three times. And everytime they did convince us a 100 percent. Mucially drawing a bit in the Dream Theater direction, but then going rather into the psychodelic progrock corner and not so much into Heavy Metal like DT. The songs are full of surprises by having lots of sudden breaks. Nice melodies are exchanging with hard chords, whereby the hard aspect has increased. Maybe because of the new album ‚Fear Of A Blank Planet’, which the band has put into focus.

Steven Wilson, is also known as a brilliant producer, who made himself a name. He asks the fans politely to stop smoking, because it infects his voice. Unfortunately not everybody does so. And the heat in here in the very well filled Elserhalle makes a few people heading to the back or close to the door, where the air ain't that bad. But the Die Hard fans don't feel this problem and cheer their heroes up. And yes, Porcupine Tree really deserve it, and hopefully they will get rid of their - still - understatement status soon. They do know how to translate their complex arrangements dynamically and powerful. Pink Floyd says hello and I for my part, and not only me, do hope, that with every further visit they will increase their popularity. I can only adivse you to have a listen to the music of this band and hope they' ll be back soon. I'll be there again.
What actually is a Porcupine Tree?????
