Okay, right at the start I wanna say, that I won't write an extensive review in this place. Most of all, because I have already reviewed this lot several times in the past few years. And nothing has really changed inbetween. There is still no new studioalbum yet. And Alvin Lee hasn't returned yet either. And no, he doesn't have to.... to be honest. Because, as I said so before, his substitute  and heir Joe Cooch is as good as him, when not even better. No lie  honestly.... in fact, I rather think, that Joe has over rolled Alvin for quite a few lenghts, what's up to talent. Only disadvantage the youngster's got: he will never reach the cultstatus of Alvin Lee.

anno 1968

No, they don't argue anymore with Alvin. But there will never be another cooperation, just to get this clear and straight. And everybody is  happy with the current situation. I'm happy about it as well, although I'm pretty sure, would this band get together in the original line up, they'd probably fill venues threetimes as big as the size they play here tonight. On the other hand - good so for Joe, who has developed to an excellent frontman during the past few years. He, who wasn't even born at Woodstock times. With him there are drummer Ric Lee, bassist leo Lyons and keyboarder Chick Churchill, the other remaining original members. But what I'm talking about... you know that anyway.
They do go on  stage at 10 p,m. to present us once more a musical dinner for our ears. The venue is well filled with aprox. 600 old hippies, Woodstock veterans and Youngsters, who have come here to study the sound of their parents. And yes, they do get, what they want, - all those big hits of the group, like
‚Hear Me Calling’, ‚Time To Kill’, and ‚Little Schoolgirl’, just to name a few. And of course the encore - 'Goin Home', the biggest ace of Ten Years After from 1968. Apart from that, not much of a change, to repeat myself. Besides Joe's frontman role,  Leo is still showing his usual bright grin while torturing his bass, Chick is doing his part seated tonight for a change, because of some knee problems .....

And last but not least –  the boss on the drums - Ric Lee, doing some fine solos and his usual speak inbetween. - Everything like always....

Every guy gets his limelight, and shows what he's able to musically, but also practicing a solid good cooperation with the others. Most of all Joe Gooch, who probably hasn't reached his peak yet, beeing just 30 years of age so far, but is better than some other musicians, who have 40 years or more of experience. I for my part really do look up to him and his talent. And it's him, who gives Ten Years After a lot of fresh breath. Here old and young pushes the energy from one to the other, and all those old songs rock like hell from behind the oven up into the sky.
Yep, operation - Forward to the past - has been successful once again. Woodstock comes alive in the Backstage venue, and our memory has been refreshened....
How much more could you wish....
