To be honest, 'till yesterday,
I couldn't get outta this band a lot. No, not because I didn't know 'em 'till
the very day. As a musicjournalist I did of course register their history
and hits etc. But as we all know, personal tastes are different, and this
lot has not really been my cup of tea. But on the other hand, I always
keep saying, - never judge an artist, before you haven't checked him
out live on stage. How often did it happen in the past, that you luv a CD,
but when you see the band live, then a dream is bursting. Or the other way
round, like in this case here, - how ofter did I neclect the music, but
when seeing the artist on stage, I was totally surprised in a positive
sense. And that's the reason, why I tell you all out there - go and have a
look at them first, before you make your final decision.
And that's what I am tonight - totally surprised. Alter Bridge is, what
I'd call an excellent Liveband with a rather high standard. And I presume,
all these aprox. 1.100 fans here think the same way. That's why the slogan
tonight is: completely sold out!
Support comes from a young new Band from Hampshire, Great Britain named
Enjoy Destroy.

And that's what they
are in the truest sense of the word- in my first thought : jesus wept -
they are young, ain't they?!!! The debutalbum 'Little Dreams' has yet to
come out, but therefor the same titled single will be out on feb. 18.This
here is the first visit of Enjoy Destroy in good old Germany, and these
kiddies here, take an awful hell of a lot effort to push up all those
Alter Bridge fans. Thanks god to the youthful enthusiasm, which hopefully
will stay for a long time around. Because with some more experience and a little
luck this band could maybe win a bigger goal one day.

.... and then the come, see
and win......

german lesson for Myles

oh yeah, and by the way
they are playing as well. All this yelling, screaming and applauding,
which rises up when they hit the stage, - I swear, some other artists get this only
for encore. It's showtime, and the venue stands on it's head.
I guess most of you know that Alterbridge have risen up from the ashes of
Creed. That's why I roll up the story the other way round. In 1997 a band
named Mayfield Four comes from Spokane, Washington/USA and release an
album entitled 'Fall Out'. You can easily make out the influence of Led
Zeppelin. And the voice of frontman Myles Kennedy seems to be a mixture of
Robert Plant and Chris Cornell. They support Creed a few times and release another album in 2001 named 'Second Skin'. After that the band
splits, pretty much the same time like Creed does, after selling more
than 30 Mill. albums. The rest is history. Myles is contacted by former
members of Creed
Mark
Tremonti, Brian Marshall and Scott Phillips, and there we go, the result
is Alter Bridge. Compared to Creed, who went into the Grunge corner,
this lot rather goes for Metal, 80s Rock and New Rock. No bass leads the
scenery, but a light tenor. And that one, I'm pretty sure, jumps easily
across two octaves. Luciano Pavarotti is posting his spirit from up there,
et you.......

The
songmaterial is taken from two released albums so far, which is
‚One Day Remains’ (2004) und ‚Blackbird’ (2007). But that's miles
enough to blow all these kids here off their socks. It's a well done mixture of the
mentioned above musical styles, spiced with lots of chilly in the butt.
And it's definately not just me, beeing completely enthusiastic about the
show. No depri sound is dominating the vibe here, but straight rock. The
first encore is done by Myles alone, and be surprised, but this is
wonderful Bluesmusic played on a slideguitar. Yep, it is so nice, seeing
all these youngsters here in the audiance dancing along to a tune, which
developed, when not even their parents were born then. On the other hand
I'm sure, Myles could have played Twinkle Twinkle little star, and the
audiance would still kiss his feet. And it's the prove, that music is
music, no matter what, but you've got to like it and it's got to be good
music. And that's what it does in this case here - 5 times underlined with
a red pen..

Alter
Bridge still belongs to sort of insiders here in Germany, as their current
album just went to pos. 55 in our charts. But this show tonight
transferred a feeling, that this band could still become really big here.
I mean - real big!!!!
However, from now on, I'm a big fan of Alter Bridge, - with tinnitus or without.....
