Just take a 6 feet tall guy, imported from the sahelzone what's up to his skinny shape, with a babyface. Let him have a band an affair with a topmodel and some drugexcesses, and the new superstar in Rock'n'Roll is born. Sounds simple, but it ain't so. Because getting such a reputation, like our english boy here, is hard work. Thanks to the yellow press, which took care about him so much in the past.

But the fact is, Pete Doherty is good for anything but not for a solid lifestyle. And his band - the Babyshambles made more history by cancelling shows in the past then appearing on stage. Whenever such an event took place then, you always had to calculate, that the magic could be over within 30 minutes or even shorter. What else could be more suitabel for Pete Doherty then: genius and madness. No doubt though, that he's a great musician, what he's proved already with his former band - the Libertines. But he was fired by them because of his continuing drugabuse. He then wasn't aloud to use the band name anymore because of legal reasons. And so he formed a new project named - The Babyshambles. They got two albums out so far - Down In Albion’ 2005 and ‚Shotter’s Nation’ from 2007.

Now we are here right now at the sold out Tonhalle in Munich in February 2008. And we first believe, that this show is gonna happen, when Mr.Doherty is actually standing up there.

Before that, we get a support slot from a rather new young german band named 'Kilians'.

i

They are going now for about 3 years. And last year the brought out their debut 'Kill The Kilians' Musicwise those five youngsters from the city of Dinslaken are situated somewhere between Travis and The Strokes. And slogan is: highly delighted - dead sad. And that's how the band wants to transfer the music from stage to the audiance. At one point very explosive, and then again a bit melancholic. And once again: they are young, a little naiv but very talented. And most of all, it's the enthusiasm, which lets the sparkle jump over to the munich fans. - they receive the kilians very well.
And it is obvious that this group belongs to those young artists, where you tend to say: let's wait and see how they develop, and whether they are still around in one or two years.  We wish them all the best luck in the world - anyway....

... and there he comes with a challenge, a huge aura and a hat, and the venue is exploding.....right now at this very moment.

We photographers take our pics exactly within the length of one song, then it's totally chaos and taking any more pics is impossible. The kids go nuts and our pur Munich security guys soon get absolutely breathless. One body after the other flys across the barricade and is carried away, - concious or unconcious.

Pete Doherty doesn't care, and he does not loose a single word between the first 3 or 4 songs. No, actually I've got the impression the new idol of the young Rock'n'Roll fans  more or less plays for himself. He seems on one hand sober, on the other totally gone. But somehow he knows what he's doing. And thats the most important point in the end.  Unfortunately the music is drowning somehow within the chaotic circumstances, and it looses somehow it's magic, which it definately got on album. (including the bad sound conditions in here as well) But you've gotta give the music of the Babyshambles one thing. It is somehow special and has a very individual touch. Only it doens't get around tonight too well. So I can call this performance only average right now.
Never mind. For most of the fans here it is enough, that Pete is standing up there in front of them. Apart from him there is  Mik Whitnall guitar, Drew McConnell on Bass and   Adam Ficek on drums,.......

but honestly they are only neccessary equipment for a liveshow. Because in the end, it's only one figure up there dominating the scenery. And thats the one of Mr.Doherty. No, he ain't a spectacular appearance. He is terribly thin and looks, as if he's just got up from bed including this look in his eyes. But he can play , h e can sing, and yes, he's got this huge aura. By time his rather pur speechs between the tracks get more and more. And he does it in english, though he speaks fluently german after spending 4 years of his life in this country. Believe it or not.

Doherty the artist, the madman, the spontainious guy, the new superstar, - clean or not clean - who cares. The one you never know, when he goes off stage. In some previouse concert reviews it was told, that sometimes he went of after only minutes and without encore or whatsoever.
Not in Munich. I look up my watch. He's actually giving us 70 minutes and after 5 minutes break - even an encore. Wauw, that's something.....!!!!

He really seems, as if  he's got a very good day/night here in munich and he does like us, don't he?! And later on, he opens the window of his dressing room and waves down to all his admirers. Some of them try to climb up to him. And one is actually making it and gets pulled in.... (hmmmm - it's a guy not a girl :-)))))
But who cares, you have to calculate with everything what's up to Pete. And maybe it is this, what makes him so loveable.....
However, Pete we luv' you, we forgive you anything and please come back soon.  !!!!!!!!. :-)))))))......
