I remember very well, when I saw Korn first live on stage. That was about 13 years ago - or something like that at our old Backstage Club in front of just about 200 fans.
And it seems half of an eternity between then and tonight. The difference is definately 4.800 more fans this time and a much bigger back cataloge including 10 albums with best of's... and Unplugged and of course the new album 'Untitled'. And yes of course lots of soundtrack contributions, Singles, and videoclips. Korn often are named the founder of Nu Metal. But to be honest, I don not see a huge difference within this postmodern description and the usual Heavy Metal. That's why I rather leave this thinking in draws to other's.
Fact is, this band gets more and more popular. In the past Korn was more known in the independent corner, not it's almost an institution in the germam metal base.
Our old Zenith is bursting. And noone ever should complain again because of  high ticketprices and smoking ban. Whoever wants to see his/her heroes, doesn't care about those things.

"Bitch We Got A Problem - Tour 2008"

Take off is 8 .m. with the  Deathstars from Sweden.

Yeah, we know 'em, most of you will say now. Because these brothers had been here before quite a few times lately for some clubgigs. Christened in the year 2000, they released 2 albums so far. 2003: Synthetic Generation and 2006: Termination Bliss. their bonus is the extraordinary look and the dark voice of singer Andreas „Whiplasher Bernadotte“ Bergh, who sometimes uses special effects to give it this special little something. And there's of course this bursting guitar sound. The band itselves sees their roots in Death Metal. But for my taste they are too melodic for this. Apart from the look and their show, Deathstars are definately much better off in a smaller club, instead of this major venue, where the individual vibe is drowning. Including the ungrateful job as the opener with less light and energy, they don't show really what they are actually able to. But on the other hand, that's the way to present themselves to a bigger audiance. The Sweds take an awful lot of an effort to transmit their music to the Korn audiance.
There's a tiny change in the line up. The job of drummer Bone, who had missed out on this one here, is taken over by Snowy Shaw
(
Therion, Dream Evil, King Diamon und Mercyful Fate. Apart from that, there is not much of a difference to last time I saw them. And I have to confess, I do like them and can only advice every Metalfan to have a glimpse at them, next time they are here....Deathstars are good entertainment  how so ever....

Flyleaf’ is the second chapter on the bill with their femal frontman/woman namde Lacey Mosley

They come from Belton, Texas and are going for seven years now. The line up is still the same from the very beginning. Next to Lacey, there is Jared Hartmann and Sameer Bhattacharya on guitar, James Culpepper on drums and in 2002 bassplayer Pat Seals joined.
Eight singles, 13 Eps, 1 DVD and one album the texans have got out so far. The see themselves as Post Grunge band, who want to fill empty spaces with their messages, like you fill the flyleaf of a book with a dedication. They've done already a european tour with Stone Sour and played on the Rock am Ring/Park festivals in 2006. So the name is already familiar to some of us. Compared to America, where they own already sort of a superstar status.

Musically Flyleaf are balancing between Soundgarden and Nirvana. And lyrically the go for christina topics. Yes the girl is surely an eye catcher inmidst of all the guys. And she's jumping and running across the stage like a mad bumblebee. As little as she is, but you can't overlook her. Tonight's setlist includes the singles I’m So Sick and Fully Alive and a Cover of the  Nine Inch Nails Song „Something I Can Never Have“. Whereby  'I'm So Sick'was featured in a Hollywood movie. And that's what helped them to increase their popularity. However, for my part the voice gets on my nervs after a while. But also this second support goes pretty well down on all the Korn fans in the audiance.

my first thought, when Korn come on stage is: Jonathan Davis does realy look well and full of energy. (compared to some occassions before in the past) His outfit did seem to have become a fashion standard, as I see some people in the audiance also wearing this special kind of scots skirt and Dreadlocks.
The sound of Korn is very individual, how shall I describe it... from a screaming guitar with seven strings to a tangled five strings  basslines and a very brought vocal spectrum of the frontman, who originally comes out of a classical background. But with al the thrash elements , Korn's music does also include a melodic base, which makes it very individual. The kids in the audiance are not to hold back and squash themselves almost to death in the frontrows. One body after the other is pulled over the barriere and out, some of them in a very bad state because of dehydration. But on the other hand - as we say so: if you hadn't gonne up front, it wouldn't have happened.

Jonathan doesn't show any mercy and gives the energy level another push into the stratosphere. And when Korn tunes in  into 'We Will Rock You' from Queen, then even the last fan starts jumping and dancing around. Ups, to get back once more to the fashionline, also those white socks and sportsshoews seem to be very popular and get adopted straight away.

It is Korn up there, dominating the scenery and have everything under control. Different flash- and laser lights underline the performance (fortunately starting off after the photocall) But otherwise there are no more showelements, apart from the female harem in the left back corner of the stage, dancing in the shade of the limelights.

Yep, and I can only repeat it. The new generation of Metalfans ain't to stop. They are young and show no mercy to win another record for the ironman on Hawaii. And Korn, who definately went through quite a few ups and downs in the past, are currently back again and very big in business.....
One point for you Jonathan - with dreadlocks, skirt and backpipe....  It has been a great show, thank you!
