To take it ahead, this live review I wanna dedicate to Metal Hammer Magazine. Because if the mag had not sent me to this concerts to take pics for them, these norwegian artists would have played without me. To be honest, 'till one day before the event, I didn't even know of their existence. Yes  Gluecifer, of course - they were known in Heavy circles, or better they existed between 1993 and 2005. Meanwhile this band is past. But Captain Poon has survived, and out of the ashes from Gluecifer, Bloodlights raised up like a phoenix. Stilistically not much different - no surprise.....
And now Bloodlights are here tonight at the 59:1 Club. And I am not sure, whether I should say unfortunately or thanks god, that the club is only half  filled. For the band - unfortunately, for us rather - nice not to be squashed to pieces, like at some of the past events.

At 9.30 p.m. a local act named Shoot Dolores hits the stage....

They describe their music ans dessert rock, whatever this may be. I have to confess, I haven'd heard from them either yet. And yes they are pretty individual no question about that. To those melodies you've gotta get used first. That's why the reaction in the audiance is rather laid back, exept maye friends of the band, who have come here to cheer them up. I for my part can't really associate with them, but first of all they do have the ungrateful job as the support and second, this is only my first impression. And I'm willing to check them out again at the next opportunity, to get one more idea about them. But for now, they give me only mixed feelings , which maybe is also a result of my individual taste.

The Bloodlights have two problems. The first one is their name. Because for people like me, who didn't know 'em yet, the name rather let's us think about the clichee - Thrash, Death or Blackmetal. And some of us won't go for it in first place, without having even heard the music. But that's not the case. The stylistic of Captain Poon and Co. rather goes for non compromising straight Garage american Rock'n'Roll, the way Gluecifer did it, or the swedish ligue of Hardcore Superstar, Hellacopters and Backyard Babies. Nothing new, but I have to say, I'm very positivily surprised. That rocks in the truest sense of the rhythm. Respect, I did not expect such great stuff.
Next to Arne Skagan a.k.a. Poon, there is guitarist Howie B, bassist Ron Elly and drummer Nico Schäfer. By the way, that irretating name goes back to a phenomenen, which appears after drinking to much alcohol and you see red flashes in front of your inside eye, - according to Poon.
The debutalbum came out last year, when it was recorded in Berlin, Germany. And yes, it seems, it goes well down at all those Gluecifer fans.

The second problem the Bloodlights have got, is the lack of spectators tonight, who count a figure of aprox. 150 freaks. I presume, this circumstance is due to a lack of popularity yet. But I hope that this will change very soon, when they will appear on several festivals this summer. Somehow I have the feeling, it's not the best show for the band themselves tonight, thanks to the generell environment. But according to the average impression - yep you can say - it rocks and the Bloodlights don't stand behind their collegues of Hardcore Superstar for instance. And though these guys don't have that many tattooes and don't look that much glamrock, I'm pretty sure, within a short while, they will have reached the same status, what's up to the generell vibe and status - playing their straight Rock'n'Roll. I for my part can say - I luv truly luv it....
And I can only advise you, go and check 'em out, whenever they are back again, it's worth while......
