I am still not quite sure.....
Are this Tempestt, and J.S.Soto as a special guest, or J.S.Soto with a
background band?! Hmmm...? In first place you might think, it's him with
a band, because his name is more well known as the one of the
band. And without him, this lot would maybe get lost. But it's not the
case. It is actually the brasilian Tempestt, who are the main act. And
Jeff - how shall describe it....? is helping them with his name and
talent. Although his talent wouldn't be neccessary, because Tempestt are
very good musicians. Like mentioned before, BJ (voc), Edu Cominato (drums), Gustavo Barros
(git) und
Paolo Soza (bass) are from Brazil, and they grew their roots sometime in
the 90s inbetween Angra and Shaaman. IIn 1999 the foursome started to
play coversongs - from Journey, Europe, Queen and Bon Jovi. But that
wasn't enough, and they started to write music themselves.

That all reads like the
history of many other bands all over the world. But it is the kind of
interpretation, which makes Tempestt so special inbetween all these
countless other rockgroups in Brazil. Bassist Billy Sheehan got aware of
them and also Jeff Scott Soto, who got them as his supportband on his
brasilian tour.
Of course the Tempestt debutalbum contains a duett with Jeff, their
mentor. And here we go, the first time on the other side of the globe in
good old Europe.
Not Jeff, who is more or less homely over here with his music, and
should be thinking about moving over here for good. It's another fact,
that Jeff is also an underrated musician, and one of the most busy one's.
He is a phantastic live performer with a brilliant voice and he writes
good songs. Although he never ever hit it big in his entire carriere and
is still running behind the huge success. Yes Journey was a chapter
inbetween, which has ended faster than it had started. No more
comment on this topic, as Jeff had to sign it black on white, not
to talk about it. Apart from that, there was and still is Talisman. And
he has sung with Malmsteen, Takare and Soulzirkus. And of course his
solocarrere. Currently he is working on another new soloalbum
Tonight we have gathered in our Rockclub Garage here in Munich to check
out Tempestt and Jeff Scott Soto. We are aprox. 100 freaks, who do know
the history of JSS. The show starts at 9.30 p.m. with Tempestt, who
start off with the titletrack of their debutalbum 'Bring 'Em On'. And
yes, they've really got a very unique style and musical output, too
individual to get stuck in my ears immidiately. Let's say, you've got to
get used to it. This music, what these Brasilians play, is not
melodicrock in the normal sense, like Soto does it. It's a bit to hard
and too strange for that. Singer BJ has got a great voice. But it is
mainly Paolos bass playing and Gustavos performance on guitar, which
draws my attention. Edu Cominato almost vanishes behind his drumkit. He
looks very young, but he can't be, as - besides the band, he is a drum
teacher in his home country.
However, next to own songs, they do a well done cover of the Deep Purple
song 'Burn'. And after 45 minutes Jeff Scott Soto jumps on stage as
well......

|
..... who, inbetween
takes action as the barkeeper, mixing some delicious caipis. But as he
comes on stage, he brings much more energy up there as it is anyway. He
understands exactly how to push up the small audiance, and he likes to
communicate. He offers a free Tempestt CD for anybody who can sing along
with him up there.
And a guy named Mischa storms the stage to take the challenge.
|
|
Yep, and this boy can
manage and sings well, what Jeff shows him beeing very surprised about
the kid's talent. But Jeffrey doesn't know.... Because Mischa is none
other, than the frontman of Munichs No.1. Progrock pride Dreamscape.
I wouldn't have known
either, if I hadn't seen Mischa on stage recently with his band
supporting Symphony X. (so that's how to get a free Cd easily - not fair
is it??) - just kiddin'
Back to Tempestt feat. Soto or Soto feat Tempestt - right now it doesn't
matter. Both make a good job and end the evening with an extended
version of the Soto hymn 'I'll Be Waiting'.
I presume, we all got very well served with a solid and entertaining
club concerts. Nothing what makes me jump up now because of exitment,
but I can't complain either. And Jeff's biggest wish for the future........
- alrighty, it's that Steve Perry is putting out his new soloalbum very
soon, and hopefully jumps into the billboard charts on the hightest
position. How come......?! :-)))))
