Almost unbelievable, that this band is already 11 years on the run. And within all this time, they only got noticed by insiders - 'till now....
Founded in Los Angeles at the Molly Malones Pub from irish musician Dave King. And this gentleman is far not that unknown in the Rockbusiness. So back in the eighties he was the singer in 'Fast' Eddy Clarkes Band Fastway, and later founded a band named Katmandu. (And that's where I know him from)

Dave King - in front on the left. In the background behind him Fast Eddy Clarke and the rest of the gang is Katmandu - London 1990,

Inbetween this time and the start of Flogging Molly there was kind of an empty space, just playing in local pups etc. First in 1997 things became much better again, and Dave actually started with, what he calls:  that's what I always wanted to do - irish folkmusic mixed up with punkrock. The receipy exploded like a nuclear bomb, and exspecially in America it went down very well.
Dave King (Voc/git), Bob Schmidt (Mondoline/Banjo), Nathan Maxwell (Bass), Dennis Casey (Git), Bridget Regan (fidel/flute), Georg Schwindt (Drums) and Matt Hensley (harmonica) can look back now on seven releases so far.
In the states this concept of irish punkrock does more than just well and the veues are crowded. With their newest CD 'Float', which actually just came out, the wave of success has swapped over here as well. And the current tour is sold out. Very interesting to watch is the fact, that the audiance consists mainly of young people aged between 15 and 25, who celebrate this band enthusiastically. On the other hand a sold out Muffathalle doesn't neccessarely mean a comfortable concert enjoyment sight restriction included. Okay, at least for the first three songs I've got the possibillity to watch 'em as close up's while taking pictures, always beeing anxious  because of flying bodies coming across the barriere.

Support comes from Guns  and  Pepper. The first Band I did miss. But Pepper get down on me completely.

These guys are from the hawaiian islands, better from Kona, Big Island. The Hawaii Shirt is included, but only what's up to the drummer. The other two lads of the threesome rather prefer the nude look. Hmmmm.... actually the should be used to the heat, shouldn't they? Or shall this be rather a sexy turn up, which comes with the music? Anyway, The band describes their style as a mixture of Pop, Reggae and Rock. No, I don't know, exspecially what's up to Reggae tunes. For me it rather sounds like a progressive punkrock mixture. But it gets down quite well at the kids here. As a highpoint Flogging Molly bassist Nathan Maxwell is joining them on stage for one song. Not bad at all, but also not a stint, leaving a longlasting memory.

And then Dave King and his irish american Good mood combo starts off, that the venue is shaking....

Jesus wept... this is great. The irish folk is dancing with Rock'n'Roll, jumping up and rollin' over with a hell of an energy. This is music, you just can't stand still on one stop. Dave King, who in earlier times rather seemed like a flower power child, now looks like a crazy highschool teacher. But well, we all don't get younger, do we?! But well, for beeing 46 years of age, he really does seam very fit. By the way, violinist Bridget Regan, the only female member in the band is also Dave's wife for two months now - congratulation! Maybe this some of the reason for all this positve energy. No time to breath, and I ask myself, whether Flogging Molly actually have got a slow song on the setlist. Not really .... But it doesn't matter  at all....

It's a fact, that the Youth has discovered a band for themselves, who could easily be their parents. The powerful set is only interrupted now and then by a little solostint of the various bandmembers. Oh, and before I forget.... the guiness in polposition on stage completes the scenery.

Dave, who has just moved back to his home country Ireland with his wife, is proud about his roots, and says thank you for the peace in the public.
The encore is a final power push, and last but least there ain't no t-shirt in this place not beeing completey soaked. In each case the signs are high up for Flogging Molly to reach the peak of the Olymp, if the run of success continuess with such a speed.
Yep, that has been an excellent and very good spectacle.... Thank you very much.....
