Munich

and once again we've got one of these super musicians, who doesn't get the attention, he actually deserves. In the past I had already once the pleasure to convince myself about the talent of this afro american artist TM Stevens. This happened about one year ago at almost the same place here. And it was simply fantastic. Just to repeat myself quickly from my last review.... TM stands for Thomas Michael, and he played for names like James Brown, Joe Cocker, Tina Turner, Steve Vai, Cyndy Laupuer, Little Steven and Billy Joel. In his jazz years he shared the stage with Miles Davis.

But whatever he does with  his Shocka Zooloo Band, where he still walks on not that well known paths, is his invented - Heavy Metal Funk. And that one, he celebrates since 1995 on 9 albums so far. The latest release 'African's In the Snow' came out last year. Meanwhile TM has also a new project running named 'Temple Of Soul', feat. Clarence Clemons, Narada Michael Walden, TM Stevens and Veronon Ice Black. All well known names in the biz.... - You don't know 'em??? - Typical...
Tonight TM is back again with his Shocka Zooloos, who consist, apart from himself, also of Michael 'Masterblaster' Barnes on guitar and Gary 'G-Man' Sullivan on drums.

Just arrived at the Backstage Club, it's still very empty there, and I get a bit anxious, that this gig will drown, because of the warm summer weather and the urge of all people in Munich, to rather stay at the beergardens. But thanks to Rock'n'Roll, it's not the case. And when our coloured paradise birds fly on stage at around 10 p.m. the living room here is well filled with about 150 freaks
To take it ahead, this here is not only a concert, but also a whole comedy show. the threesome entertains the audiance not only with brilliant funky Hardrock rhythm, but TM is also telling funny anecodets and shows a lot of reaction to the crowd. Right after the start of the show we get half of a striptease, and I can manage to catch TM's bare backside with my lense.

This fact does not stay undiscovered, and as a little thank you I've got move my butt now on stage.... (no not what you might think now....) but to take some pics from behind, what's up to band and audiance.....see pic below.....

And again, one artist, who can't resist to carry politics on stage. - Whatever it's up to G.W.Buss.... he's off the trail very soon anyway, so what??? And whatever comes afterwards,  it's still questionable, whether this will be be better... - okay enough of that...
In each case, in here we celebrate not a concert but a whole Rock'n'Roll party with tons of Jaegermeister. Cheers... And I still don't understand, why all americans do luv that awful stuff that much :-) And they even share it with the audiance...

Inbetween we get a little tribute of Jimi Hendrix, as well as one to Deep Purple with 'Burn' - in the truest sense of the word. And yes of course, James Brown must not be missing. But the actual fascinating fact on this performance is the difficult bass playing of TM Stevens, which seems so easily done. It rocks and it funks, and every fan in here forgets his rheumatism and starts an african Zulu Raindance in a headbanger's mentality. They should really get this three guys to the Summerbreeze or Wacken festival. They can easily compete with every Heavy Metal group and even blow them off. Here is the afro soul alive and the rasta hair is flying. And though I'm forced to use a flashlight in this club here because of too less light, I get one of the best shots lately. Even my camera is dancing a samba pa ti... oh sorry, that's Santana.... but never mind, then we call it a sahara squaredance.  Right at this moment, nobody thinks about anything then these Africans In The snow, or better in Munich. And according to the question: 'who else in  here is playing the bass?' some guys enter the stage to perform with some help of TM...

This is Fun, and this is action without even one second of boredom. And it's the art to play the four strings, which fascinates us so much. No dead serious endless solos, but a lot of fun, not to forget including a great guitarist and an animal on drums, heating up the energy. One more encore and it's one more time proved, that this small but very nice event is one of the highlights so far this year here in Munich.
And over all the spirit of Jaergermeister is sailing.... cheers again....
