Actually unbelievable that John Fogerty had finished with Creedance Clearwater Revival already in 1972. Because his name is still so 100% related to the 60s cultband, even after 36 years- And though Fogerty's solo carriere has done pretty well over all the following years, it's the spell, or should I better say, the shade of CCr he could never excape. Probably never wanted to either, 'cause his live set still features all the famous songs from the past. On the other hand, we tend to ask ourselves, why there has never been a full band reunion. Never mind, the meanwhile 63 years old Fogerty, or better his voice was and always has been CCR in first place. And it still keeps the spirit from the past alive. And yes, this here is CCR - almost.... Or better, tongiht here at
the Zenith, this is John Fogerty live within his 3 dates - Germany tour.
The venue is just about half full. And the audiance is a mixture of a very
lively 60s generation and some youngsters. Whereby the Oldies are
dominating tonight. I must say, I do not see this very often, that the
first row contains mainly the elderly, who are waiting with exitement to
see their idol live on stage again. Okidok, back to the Action,
starting at 8.30 p.m. not much spectacular. Oh, by the way, we
photographers got some special rules again. Instead of the usual lnght of
3 songs, we are only aloud to shoot 2 songs, and only from the far left or
far right. Our superstar up there doesn't like photographers jumping
around in front of him. And if you know how short the tracks of him and
CCR are, then you can easily imagine, that our session doesn't last longer
than just about 5 minutes. You've gotta give John one thing. He seems pretty fit and is looking good for his age, and he is still singing great. His voice has always been the brand of CCR. That the usual awful soundproblems occure within this venue, you can't blame him for. The only thing bothering me personally are the rather long breaks between the songs, sometimes up to 2 minutes. It always pulls the average mood down again. And not even his brilliant band, including guitarrist Billy Burnette, can make this good. But that's about the only
point of criticism, wich I've got to mention. Apart from that, the
southernrock atmosphere is dominating with classics like 'Bad Moon Rising',
or 'Have You Ever Seen The Rain', which Fogerty is dedicating to his six
year old daughter, who just hast discovered her love for rainbows. |
