My god, it seems like ages ago, when we danced in the discothek to the tunes of 'Manic Monday' and 'Walk Like An Egyptian'. It's more than 2 decades ago, almost a little eternity. Vicky and Debby Peterson had founded the band together with Susanna Hoffs in 1981, and they soon shot to fame. In 1985 and 86 they reached their highpoint with the songs mentioned above, and also 'If She Knew What She Wants’. One year later the band had one more hit with  ‚Hazy Shade Of Winter’ and in 1988 – with  ‚Eternal Flame’.But that was it really.... The continuing quarrels between the girls ended in the result, that they declared their end at a pressconference in 1989.
But the seperation only lasted about 10 years.
Well in 1999 they are all of course older, maybe a bit wiser and more experienced to make a new start, first with a Best of.... Album and a tribut concert for the Beatles. And from then story climbs up again, first only in the US. 2003 the Bangles released a new studioalbum entitled 'Doll Revolution'. Two years later bassist Michelle Steel quit the band. But the other's carry on, and now they are here in Europe and today at Munich's Tollwood Festival. Unfortunately the weather god shows no mercy. No don't worry, this concert is not an open air, only because the whole thing is named Tollwood Festivals. Musical events, apart from the rest of all activities happen in a huge tend calles the saturn Arena. Aprox. 1.000 nostalgic fans from then and some youngsters have found their way  here, to convince themselves, that the Bangles are really back again and still up to date.....

But first of all the german poprock band Elevate from Karlsruhe give their supportslot.

It really is happy coincident, 'cause the actual planned supportact jumped of the trail just shortly beforehead. I have to confess, I haven't heard about this band before. But well, you can't know everything, can you. But I always like to check out young new acts and convince myself that Germany still got some good new stuff as well....

Their debutalbum 'Every Single Day' has been born just 2 weeks ago. And yes, Elevate own a certain kind of potential and try to get their AOR Sound straight across to the audiance. They only have to be carefull, that they don't drown in the too commercial and non compromising economy system. I for my part wish 'em much luck. At least they have a great start. The only little disadvantage tonight are the only 30 minutes showtime.

Okay, and with a little delay there they are our  US-All Girl-Popband Nr. 1 - the Bangles.

And yes they still do look great, though the girls probably have already celebrated their 40th birthday. But the shape is still slim and the legs seem perfect. But let's face it, exspecially american women know very well  how to keep the visuall youth for a bit longer, however they do it. But that's not the point here. Because no matter what you look like, it's the tune what makes the music. And the tune sounds right to me. The Peterson sisters and Susanna Hoff and a pretty new bassist still understand to put themselves in the right limelight in each way.

Yeah well, I'm sure some guys in the audiance have surely come because of the beautiful sight on stage, I bet. But why not. The eye eats as well, as we say so over here. Big bonus of the Bangles are of course their smashhits from the eighties. And tonight these songs sound almost timeless. It's still Susanna Hoffs, who is the main focus on stage, though the other three girls do certainly not stand behind her.

The Bangles - 1986

Also here there is just something little to complain about it. When you focused mainly to rockmusic like I myself do, then sometimes popbands, exspecially when they are females, sound a bit thin in the performance. But I won't really say something, because I'm not sure whether this is the case, or is it only my individual hearing.
The show ends with 'Walk Like An Egygtian'. And because the show must be over by 10 p.m. at this Tollwood festival, the Bangles just got time for one more song. That one, so Debbie Peterson announces, is the very first song they ever played together live on stage in 19881 - 'Pushin' Too Hard' from the Seeds. Over all this show has been a very entertaining nostalgic dejavu not much more, but not less either... and we all go happily home afterwards....
