Twice John Butler has been here in Munich so far. And tonight it's the third time - live on stage. And each time he plays a bigger venue here with more audiance. No surprise as this artist is still a so called secret hint in our country. Not so in Australia, where he appears apparently in the biggest stadiums as I have heard. But now - slowly and sure he and his band mates Shannon Birchal and Michael Barker make themselves a real name over here.Right now the John Butler Trio celebrates their 10. anniversary. And I guess, that's why they are back again, - not with a new studioalbum in the back but therefore with the album 'One Small Step... Live & Solo'.
The born californian, who had moved to the country of his dad, is an absolut multi talent. He understands perfectly to combine all musical styles on this planet. But, and that's the difficult part.... He and the band play  the hell outta themselves for 2 1/2 hours , and not even one single second is boring. This pure great music in it's truest form.
And though John Butler gets with each visit to Germany more popular, he still seems very laid back and practices understatement. He seem happy like a kid under the xmas tree for every big applause.

But before Mr. Butler pulls us out of our slippers because of our deep respect, here she is: 'Mama Kin' for the first time in Germany. - Who? will probably 99% of you ask now. No, we don't know her yet, because she just started out to conquer the world with her debut EP 'Papoose'. On stage she is accompanied by her brother Michael on piano.

Mam Kin is very beautiful and actually looks like spanish girl with her dress and make up and the flower in her hair. But she comes from Australia too out of a family with six sisters and brothers. She got in touch with music in a very early age, but her talent stayed within the family until she was grown up. Not a slightest clue, whether her brother or anybody else inspired her to get out and show the world her talent. So now she's got the chance to support the John Butler Trio over here, which ain't really a surprise, as there are some sort of connections to the headliner *lol*.

Unfortunately, she, like many supportacts gets ignored from the press yet. So I stand alone in the photopit to catch her visual beauty and convince myself about her talent. Mama Kin's voice is partly smooth, but also very impressing with a certain kind of energy. Brother Michael with this certain smile on his face: don't worry be happy - seems to me like a southamerican guy, or even better argentinian. Dun' know why.... - only my personal idea...
Stylistically Mama Kin goes in a kind of Bossanova with folk ingridients and huge potential of Soul and a slight melancholic touch. Hmmmm, I  hope I'm right now. Because it's a little difficult to put in the right draw. Best thing is, you listen to the music on the My Space Page (see below). But however, - Mama Kin's music is also great stuff for the average music lover. She gets much respond for her  charming and sexy performance. Although she is quite alone up there only with brother Michael, like I mentioned before. - I personally could only think about a bit different venue for her show. Maybe a small dark bar with comfi furniture and a glas of deep red stron spanish Rioja wine and smooth lights. I believe, at such an environment Mama Kin would spread the perfect aura and touch every sense. But everything has it's advantage or disadvantage. In our case, the venue is big, therefore she get a big audiance as well, who  came here for John Butler.

What else shall I say?! A classy woman with a great voice. It's only the right and big echo which is still missing. But who knows, maybe that one comes quicker than you think...

Okay, what shall I still say to John Butler...?! As I have seen and checked out the band already twice in the past two years and have written reviews.

First of all, it's a fact, that John has even increased his action on stage. But what falls first into my eyes is, that his dreadlocks have gonne and he now wears a Good Boy haircut. Apart from that, he doesn't seem older than last time or the time before. Hmmm what might have made him to cut his hair? ha he become more conservative or did it just bother him? We won't get to know that, but honestly - it doesn't matter, does it. He is here including Shannon on bass and Michal on drums.
Different is also the way he performs. He does not sit that much anymore as he used to while playing, and he got more impulsive with even more passion. Oh yes I do like it. The Bumerang has got itselves a lot more pepper in it's motor - respect!

The usual three songs are over for taking pictures and we leave the photopit. But as we arrive at the side at the barriere, it's Mama Kin from the supportslot offering us to carry on taking photos, - if we want to - the whole show. We ask ourselves: is she a manager as well or something like that? But we don't continue thinking about that and return gratefully to the photopit. Though we try only to take pictures, when there is a special situation up there or a special light and then sit down again. Otherwsie the fans in the frontrows wouldn't be very happy with us, would they? It's great, because that way, you can enjoy the concert even more and get an even better impression.

The solo middle part of the show develops into a trip of a spheric spectrum, which is performed by Mr.Butler with such a great feeling, which is making us shiffering. It's a very sensitive Crossover performance. What a brilliant musician, what else can I say...
Also Mama Kin's brother Michael is back to action inbetween on stage and helps the trio to get a full sound. The last part of the concert is full of energy again. Rock meets fusion, folk, a bit country and soul. And John Butler gets Mama Kin back on stage again for one song together.

Teh 150 minute set closes with a drum session and one encore including two songs.. (see setlist below.)

Congratulation, this third concert of the John Butler Trio here in Munich is certainly one of the highligts this year. And I can only advise you guys out there, who go for high quality music, - in case you missed it this time, - go and check them out, next time they are here. You won't regret it. And I'm pretty sure, the Bumerang comes back again soon.... That's what Bumerangs usually do, don't they.... exspecially when they receive a lot of positive affection.
