There they are again our little lovable US-philipin thrashmetal boys of Death Angel. And you know, what the most amazing thing is about them? These guys seem as youthful as the first time I met them in London in 1990. That's probably due to their heritage or something like that.
However it's a fact, that Death Angels were founded in 1981, so the boys must head towards their fourties or even a little above, - at least what's up to some of them.  Respect - I must say, they really kept themselves in shape.
Inbetween the group had seperated for almost exactly 10 years - between 1991 and 2001.

About two years ago I saw 'em again on the Bang Your Head Festival here in Germany. But you know what the situation is like at open air festivals, when you just can watch things from a certain distance and not in a intimate club atmosphere. Then the visual pictures sometimes ain't clear enough, and it's only the acoustic which is left. But tonight at the 59:1 Club here in Munich it's different. In here Mark Osegueda (Voc), Rob Cavestany (Git), Dennis Pepa (Bass), Andy Galeon (Schlagzeug) and Ted Aguilar (Git)  stand on a stage only in about 10 feet distance and start their Heavy Metal thunderstorm, which is much louder than the one right now outside the frontdoor. Ob by the way, the only change in the line up since the eighties is the last named guitarist. Original six string player Gus Pepper didn't come back after breakin up and reuniting again. Apart from that, everything stayed pretty much the same, but that with much  more energy than in the past. And for my part I'm happy, that I have come here and I'm not at some other event tonight taking part as open air, where it's soaking right now. I prefer the nice club atmosphere with cold beer and some powerful Heavy Metal. It's not totally crowded, and that's quite nice, so I don't get squashed to death and I'm even able to take pictures from somewhere in the front. I guess, that there are aprox. 150 souls in here, who have come to check out the Bay Area Thrash methusalems.

But first of all it's the local act 'Red To Grey', a local Munich Metal Band, who I haven't heard off before, to be honest. But you can't know everything, can you?

Concerning the history which started in 1998 with the band and an album entitled 'Circle of Pain'. In 2001 the second CD followed - 'Wrath of the Weak'. That one is actually named as the first official record, however this is to understand.
After a line up change the band now consists of:  Andy Pankraz (Voc), Tino Bergamo (Git), Frank Pané (bis 2002, seit 2006
) (Git),Stefan Hendel (seit 2003) and(
Bass) und Bass) und Elmar Nüßlein (Schlagzeug). – The supportslof for Death Angel comes just right, 'cause the next album 'Admissions'  is soon due on sept. 26. The band describes themselves  in direction of Bay Area Thrashmetal like Exodus and Testament. I personally do a bit hard to put them in a certain draw. . So I leave this and rather concentrate on what the boys have got to offer. It's pretty neat despite the restrictons and the missing space on stage. This one the missing light conditions doesn't make it easy to take decent pictures. So sorry boys, if the pictures are not my very best ones' cause I didn't get you in front of my lense the best way. But next time you play, we repeat the session. On the other hand, it's okay for getting the chance to support Death Angel.

Not much space for movement, less light and even less time - the usual problem of support acts. But they still take a huge effort to show themselves from their best side including the longhaired image care. Yep, it leaves a certain impression, thanks to an expressive voice and some nice 6 strings. Let's put it that way - not bad at all, but I for my part would like to check you guys out again to asure myself that this first impression of my has not been the worst.

A little later our exotic paradise birds of Death angels come on stage, on the same on, like Red To Grey before, but with a difference, that now the stage seems almost like a soccer field. Yeah well - almost....

But first of all a good drink from a bottle of Absolut Vodka to get in the right mood. No don't worry, there is also enough still water waiting for beeing consumed. Oh and on the left box up there, a little deadringer is looking after the band. His name - Tyranno-Rex. Alrighty and off we go with Death Angels loud and powerful philosophy of poser... ehm sorry thrashmetal party. Though, the description poser ain't that wrong, because Mr. Osegueda and Cavestany know exactly how place themselves into the right light and position. So what, I'm the last one, who would complain about this, as no photographer would do so....

Dreadlocks are flying around in almost the speed of light fighting with the speed of the guitar. The setlist is a well mixed programm of what they've got to offer and it encourages our good mood. - "Can I sit  next to you girl... ACDC say hello...
Mark Osegueda announces, that this is the last headliner gig on this tour, so the band would do an extra long set, followed by partying 'till 4 o'clock in the morning. And cheers again from the Vodka bottle. No, don't worry - no complains....
Death Angel own a hell of a potential and put out a 100% power for 90 minutes + one encore. But there ain't no extra length, like announced and no party afterwards. But well, that's okay, because whatever Death Angel have offered us here is some great art of thrashmetal in a very good mood...

It's friday night, reason enough for a party. But most of Munich's metal heads prefer to go home after the show, but well satisfied with some great music.
And in the end it's Rock'n'Roll keeping us young - so what?!
