Holy shit and every chapter of the holy coran, what the hell is this here? In each case, it ain't the speech of the pope or maybe songs of blue whales. - Hmmm.... I ask myself whatever this kind of sound structure might be called?! 'Sludge-Post-Hardcore' it says in the description on the wikipedia website. And you can imagine whatever you want by there. I presume you gotta see and hear this here live to get the right idea. And my dear friends, be asured, you get that all delivered tonight free house. Every funeral is a beachparty compared with this dead serious, very last day requiem, which we get delivered here. 'Do not take photographs with flashlight' - is written in big letters on at least four monitor boxes and also on a big sign on the frontdoor. Yeah well so what? We photogaphers might think now... This is a usual standard at many concerts, and noone really puts a special notice on it. - Anyway, I'm not quite sure, why they here, why this rule is underlined so often tonight. Either our friends here don't like flashlights of fan cameras at all, or is it due to the high concentration level the need for dealing with all these countless special effects. The visual aspect is turned down to very little, only the screen at the back of the stage is the focus showing the four elements of human beeing - air, water, earth and light. It's very theatralic in picture and sound... or should I say sound and picture.... however.... ’A Storm Of Light’ is the first chapter consisting of three individuals, whereby the bold head seems to be the boss here. His name is Josh Graham and
in the genre he ain't that unknown, as he collected some reputation
already with his former band Red Sparrows. There ain't a piece of music under 10
minutes length. And you need a lot feeling, understanding and patience for
this kinda music. Although there seem to be quite a few people who do
obviously like this sound talk of the four seasons and more. Our
Metropolis club is well filled with a aprox. 400 friends of the apocalypse,
who listen happily to the bombastic dark symphonies. Unbelievable, that this californian birds
are going already for more than 20 years. But compared to their collegues
before, this band is much more heavy on the way what's up to the generell
noise level. Just about nine songs are shown on the setlist. But these
hardcore cascades seem to the no end, and to be honest at some point, I
don't evn know anymore, when one track starts and the other ends. Scott
Kelly and Steve van Till share the front dominance and profil neurosis.
They hold what their name promises. By the way, the even more expressive
movie scenes on the screen are created by none other than Josh Graham from
the supportslot 'Storm Of Light'. The morbid psycho excesses are drifting
into deepest canyons of desperate frustration of our average existence.
They are a scary collage of industrial noise, hardcore heavyness, and dark
Doom Rock and rare samples which sweaps across genre borders which are
simply named cross overs. Got me??? The band describes their music as: „Sonic exploration, spiritual dedication, purity and originality of heart.” - So you see, the description is as excentric as the sound itselves. So leave it, and I don't give a damn to further explain these posttraumatic nightmare, as noone here catches the sense of a word beeing sung anyway. So let's enjoy these claustrophobic depressive games of light, expressed in ocean waves, atomic explosions, whale rides and panic faces and black ravens. At
some point I've got enough of 'Given To The Rising' (also the title of the
current release from 2007), and I make a move to the frontdoor of this
temple of depri souls and their black sound clouds. I won't get a clue out
of this happy faces listening with huge ears to their glorified heroes.
Because for them this opera is a rather - 'Don't Worry Be Happy' happening
. So please don't ask me, whether this here is a brilliant performance or
rather suicide hint for the right way to hell.... |
