I've gotta say one thing first in the beginning. For her age, which is meanwhile 61, the Country-Folk icon  still looks smashing great - respect. I mean, as we all know, american women do a lot for beauty and are famous for beauty surgery, botox etc. but who gives a damn. Emmylou is simply still beautiful, and you give her 50 years no more.- And when you look at the 15 awards, including 12 Grammy's between 1976 and 2005, then there is almost nothing left, what this unique artist hasn't reached and won yet. She can look back on 26 albums and more than 15 Mill. sold records, and she certainly belongs to the american Country/Folk institutions. But while belonging in the states for many years to the real big superstars, over here in Europe, she earns only an average presence. This is due to the fact, that Country and Folk music has never been that big over here. - But Mrs. Harris always comes back and also plays smaller venues with a capacity of just about 1.000 or 1.500 most people. Other countrystars wouldn't even bother to move over here, because they don't wanna miss their stage presence and status. Not so Emmylou, who always came back over the years to play to a smaller audiance as well and bring us her music a bit closer. This time she presents us her new CD «All I Intended To Be», which was out in August.

Last time I've seen the Grand Dame about 15 years ago in Frankfurt at a Country Festival live on stage. There were also artists like Trisha Yearwood and Marty Stuart.
And also participating in Emmylou's background band was guitarist Rodney Crowell, one of the best guitarists and songwriters within this genre. Unfortunately he now is history in Mrs. Harris band for quite a few years. And that's actually the fact I regret most. What would I give, if this man would stand on stage tonight as well. -But he doesn't.....
The Philharmonie in Munich is well filled but far from sold out, which means aprox. 1.000 fans. Supportact Kimmie Rhodes I did miss unfortunately, due to the fact, that I had another date a bit earlier somewhere else. So I arrive just about at the break  and for Emmylou Harris gig. I have to say, that I luv the  rather sophisticated atmosphere at this place here. You feel somehow more posh inmidst the rather elderly audiance, most of them dressed in black. (no not the Gothic style)
Emmylou's set is half acoustic, presenting us rather unknown songs and not so much the big hits. (see setlist below)

Her Background band consists currently of:  Bryan Owings – Drums, Chris Donahue – Bass; Phil Madeira – Keyboards, Akordion, Harm.Voc; Colin Linden – Git Harm.Voc; Rickie Simpkins – Mandoline, fiddle, Harm.Voc.. –

During the set, Emmylou gets support lady Kimmie Rhodes on stage again for 3 more songs.Apart from that, she's doing her job as the frontwoman on her own. Her announcements inbetween the songs are rather laid back. She seems not to be a person of many words, but rather let's the music do the talking.
She comes back for one encore and is obviously pleased about the positive resonance of the munich audiance. Yeah well, I confess, you've really got to have a faible for this musical style. And at some points it's even a bit too much for me. But I think, I have enough understandiing, that I can see and feel the great musicianship and talent of Emmylou Harris.

PS: Although I've got to mention one thing. If there had been Rodney Crowel on stage again, it would have been soooo much nicer. But times are changing, and meanwhile this man is a superstar for many years on his own in America. (here you find the clip to my favourite song of him)
