Right in the beginning there is this question: does anybody need this? Or generally - what are tributeband good for? Exspecially when the Original is still around and going. Okay in the case of Lez Zeppelin the original band doesn't exist anymore, or should I rather say, inbetween they did for one off show last year. And now everything is up in the air, whether there will be a full reunion or not. There are some curious rumours, that Robert Plant doesn't want, but the rest of the band does....
And until this is cleared, we are putting up with Lez Zeppelin an all Girl Band from New York, who dedicate their talents to the legendary cultrocker and reflect their music in a very individual way. Jimmy Page personally  gave permission to use the similar name and play the music, because he showed great enthusiasm, in what the girls are doing.  Since 2004
Lisa Brigantino – (Bass, Mandolin, Keyboard) Helen Destroy – (Drums), Sarah McLellan – (Vocals) und Steph Paynes – (Guitar) are on their way so let this wondeful music come back to life with their versions.
Okay, I confess, it was pure curiousity  and not much expectation, who drove me there and check this four american female musicians out, who are here tonight in Munich.

Support comes from 'Drown'n'Tears' a local Bluesrock Band from Munich.

The band is Dominik ter Meer (Git/Voc) Alexander Werkmeister (Drums), Alfredo Gurber (Bass) und Torsten Kubina am Gesangsmikro. They are trying hard, to let the old times live up with many coverversions of The Free and Bad Company and more (see Setlist). the focus is singer Torsten Kubina, who is concerned to transfer his slight arrogant aura to the audiance.

I would say. this is a nice entertainment partyband with a huge nostalgic spot, not more no less, but great for pushing up the average mood in here.

However, after this, about 250 old and young fans are waiting for what's coming up next, played by four pretty girls, who want to prove, that also women can play complicated and advanced rockmusic.

I presume, that everybody in here in the audiance first came here with some doubts including me. But what shall I say....??!!! Our expectations meet this performance miles above and beyond. Jesus wept!!!! These girls are really really good. I mean, Led Zeppelin is not necessarely the easiest music to play. But respect, whatever and however Lez Zeppelin present us their versions of this music, it is simply great.
Sarah McLellans voice reaches the high tunes perfectly, and she does it probably better, than Robert Plant would do nowadays. (Maybe one reason, why he doesn't wanna tour anymore with Led Zeppelin). But we all don't get younger, do we. And the changing of a voice is an rather individual developement  within everybody's life.
Steph Paynes is a brilliant guitarist, and she is so good in copying Jimmy Page's style. But not only this, even the body movements are somehow similar to Page. LIsa Brigantino is the multi instrumentalist in the band, whos handles her bass as well as the keyboard. And last but not least the animal on drums - Helen Destroy. Her name (is it her real name?????) speaks for itselves. Christ, I've hardly ever seen a woman, who plays so powerful the drums as she does. Her physical consistence is needed to put out this energy I guess.
And yes of course the american girls celebrate the election victory of Barack Obama on stage with some champagne. Yeah well - we do congratulate you to your new president. But we people here in Germany rather sort out first our own shit here, then we will celebrate a party as well, - if you know what I mean.....

However, these ladies give everything. The set is going for about 2 hours includign my fave Zep song 'Kashmir' in the full lenght of 9 minutes. And it is indeed exspecially the male fans in here who show deep impression and give 'em a big applause.

Yes, you can say whatever you want... Lez Zeppelin are definately not one of these unnecessary tributebands. They play the music of the rocklegend Led Zeppelin with a complete individual touch and almost with  no mistake and lot's of personal expression. Girls you are really good - congratulation again....
And I am convinced in my opinion: rather a band like Lez Zeppelin rembering rock history, - than the original  - back again but without Robert Plant... (some rumours are currently circling around about this). Because this would be suicide try of a past legend.

PS: only one song is not shown on the setlist of Lez Zeppelin tonight..... - the biggest hit, Led Zeppelin ever had - 'Stairways To Heaven'-
How come?????
