Alrighty... it's gonna be a bit heavy what's up to sweet dream melodies. Because the Unholy Alliance Chapter 3 is conquering Munich once again. For all freaks of the thrashmetal philosophy I guess, I don't have describe you, what this is gonna be, rolling like a thunderstorm towards us. Slayer - holy shit.... For 24 years I see these guys now again and again live on stage, and this still in the original line up. (yeah well with a little interruption what's up to the drummer). And they haven't changed really over all this time neither in the visuall aspect nor in the musical way. By the way, frontshouter Tom Araya, the oldest of the club is still as young as me myself. But like I always use to say - Rock'n'Roll keeps us young. And Slayer is what we would call timeless in every way. And that's the reason that we get the whole 'Reign In Blood' album from 1986 served as a nostalgic dish. And it get's so well down at the audiance, that you get the feeling, it's just been written for this show and tour. Halleluja, the most innovative milestone in thrashmetal celebrates a rising again live on stage. And some kids here who weren't even born, when this album came out, are listening happily to this powerful orgy with at least 250 decible. Never mind..... It's a fact, that the Unholy Alliance tours did quite well in the past. And before that there were for instance one entitled 'Clash Of The Titans' tour. I remember very well about that one, attending one show in London, England at Wembley Arena in 1990. There was Slayer, Megadeth, Testament and Suicidal Tendences - and it was sold out. Also the last Unholy Alliance tour was pretty much sold out. Unfortunately it's not the case this time, at least not here in Munich. Last time there were about 6.000 fans here at the Zenith. This time it's maybe half as much. And many of them, exspecially the younger one's have mainly come to check out Trivium the third supportact. Because when they finish, there are quite a few kids leaving the place. But let's start from the beginning, where an unknown supportacts starts off with a 15 minutes set, followed by Mastodon, which I miss as well.... http://www.mastodonrocks.com/ Sorry guys, but I had a little time handycap, and there is something not quite right at the timeschedule anyway. So when I arrive at the venue, Amon Amarth have already gonne on stage playing their set. It's too late for taking
pictures anyway (only first 3 songs like usual) so I watch the gig from
the audiance and have to say, I do like what I hear. And I have the
impression now the fans have found their rhythm as well to the beat. So
come on for a happy headbanging. Unfortunately Amon Amarths show does also
last only about 40 minutes, and off we go again.
http://www.amonamarth.com/ After done my work in the
photopit (very good light now compared to the band before, which must have
been a disaster for taking pics) - I watch this band now for the third
time, and the shoot off like a rocket. Singer and guitarist Matthew Kiichi
Heafy takes care for some additional ecstacy, showing in the first row
where all the metal brides look at him with gloryfied eyes. (I watched
this during the photocall) You can see on the setlist belownthat Matthew
(M), Paolo Gregoletto (P) and
And then the Kings of Thrashmetal make us really curious with a curtain in the beginning showing some light reflections. And the curtain is falling
down, and we photographers (we are only 2 left in the pit for Slayer) are
storming the front. I look on to stage, and my first thought is: The hardest band in the world is proving again, that they still deserve this reputation. And despite the brutal sound, there is still this clear straight line, which makes the music of Slayer to something special. Anyway, if some other band in this world says, that they are harder than Slayer, then it's probably only noise polution what they are doing. But here with Tom, Kerry, Jeff and Dave you can feel the quality and the spirit behind it. Well you could argue about the lyrics. But at a live show noone catches up with those anyway. So who cares...
’Reign In Blood’ gets not only celebrated by the youngsters in the
crowd, but alos a the old Slayer fans, bathing in the sweat of everybody's
neighbour.
However, there's only one
more thing to say: thanks god the beard has gonne again. :-))) |
