Today's Rock'n'Roll concert is done unter the slogan: The eighties Heavy Metal is still alive, although only on the outskirts of Nirvana. Eieieiei, I'd rather call this here a sort of funeral for the last survivors of True Metal. And there ain't much more than about 50 guests inside the walls of our Metropolis, where normally 700 fit in. And from those 50, I bet half of them are listed on the guestlist. So I presume nobody is earney a hell of a lot money tonight. And the participating artist will think about carefully to return to this city next time on tour. I personally rather think, that bands like Ross The Boss and Sinner just don't go for the current trends. Whereby I'm sure, they are doing much better in the north of Germany than here. But as I have said in other reviews before, right now there is a change of generations going on, and these kinda Pagan,- Punk,- Wave,- Thrash and New Metal bands are doing best at the moment. Only the old cultstatus bands who are untouchable are doing even better. But what, when they are gonne? And to those cultbands, also Manowar belong to in some ways, even I don't like 'em. Not so much because of their music than rather because of their average imagecare. But it is also a fact, that a pasttense with such a Cult-Metal band is no guarantee that the solo carriere is going great as well. So the fact, that Ross Friedman has founded Manowar together with bassist Joey De'Majo in 1980 and recorded 6 albums with them before he left, doesn't much help in 2008. On the other hand nowadays even Manowar can be glad to have Germany, otherwise,.... In each case you should never stop trying, when you can afford it - and why not.. Ross must have thought and gathered the Manowar Tributeband 'Men Of War' round him renamed them into RossThe Boss Band and recorded an album entitled 'New Metal Leader' this year. Yeah well that title sounds a bit too selfconfident. But that's what Ross probably wants to show the rock audiance. Butthen again this selfconfidence might shrink here in this venue again.... The evening starts off with Gun Barrel from Cologne....
But again, I miss the
first half of the set. And what I can spontainiously to this band is the
fact, that I don't like the singer. Something doesn't fit together here.
whether it's the harmonies between the musicians or the vocals itselves.
Later on, somebody tells me, that the frontman is a very new one. So I put
this lack to the fact, that he ain't familiar with the band and the
material. And he still needs to read the lyrics from a sheet on the floor.
The seltist is of course short as they are the opener tongiht. And
the simple very german hardrock doesn't go down too well at the small
audiance. But as we say so: practice makes the meistro. And maybe the
atmosphere is changing within the band, when they have tuned in to each
other. So I close one eye and leave my review down to these arguments.
I presume I don't need to say much more to this band. Matt Siner belongs to the oldest and most well known metal heads in the genre. Despite this fact, he really kept himself in shape, and he is a professional in every way, no matter whether it's his project Sinner or the other one Primal Fear or even his own person.
Beeing accompanied by two hyper active guitarists, Sinner gets even this poor visited place boiling. Matt asks everybody including the most lazy guys in the back on the bar to move to the front to get this room moving. And it really does, as 30 or 40 freaks are celebrating a party. The slogan is - 'Ladies Night' including a bar on stage and some cool drinks. And the band asks some pretty girls on stage (even one who came all the way from Austria) to join the party.
Musically Sinner is offering their whole spectrum including 'Crash & Burn'. And guitarist Leim is showing us the newest practice in aerobics.
No we certainly can't complain. Sinner is
offering us a solid Heavy Metal Show, spiced with a lot of wit and humour
and the rebel yell is loud. However....it's only Rock'n'Roll.... so one
goal for Sinner....
Although the band has got a brilliant frontshouter named Patrick Fuchs and also an ex-Manowar guitarist (long time ago ain't it?!) But that doesn't seem to be enough. I actually miss the pepper in the chillisoup. At least bassist Carsten Kettenring takes care with his funny body movements for some amusement. Ross himself seems rather laid back, - too laid back....
