Friends, there are things in life you don't get very often, or better explained, you didn't get it for a long time not so bad.
There we go looking forward for weekes to both rock legends Whitesnake and Alice Cooper in one band package.... and what do we get???? Yep, the Rock-Horror Picture Show, in the truest sense of the word. One one side this is meant in a positive way, but on the other it is truly a very sad happening here.
Our good old Olympiahalle is only averagely booked with fans of different generations. (Recently Deep Purple sold it out with more than 10.000 freaks). But today there are aprox. only 4.600 people here, who don't know in the beginning what they will experience tonight. And this better so, because otherwise, some of them would have missed out on Alice Cooper as they would have left beforehand.
However, I have experienced truly a lot within 25 years in the Musicbiz, but this here almost stops me from breathing. Halleluja....

Unfortunately some people tonight still don't know, that there is a 3rd band on the rider, which steps on stage at 7 p.m. and is named Five And The Red One. They are german and come from Ulm

These young guys got already 2 albums out namend 'Mother Bomb Phoenix' and the current release 'Universal Masterplan'. And they do  have quite a bit live experience, as they have supported already Bon Jovi, Nickelbakc, The Sweet, Kansas, Die Happy, and Liquidon live on stage.
The Boys are young and energetic, and they play straight rock without edges but with a hell of a power - going straight between the eyes. Somehow singer Dave reminds me a bit on the late Michael Hutchence of INXS in his look and way to act. . Although the band has not much light and power on stage, as openers usually never have, they do their job very well. And I'm pretty sure, some people here will keep Five And The Red One in Mind. Unfortunately time is short and the magic is quickly gone again.....and we are curious about things coming next....

And now it is getting rather interesting indeed as Whitesnake and David Coverdale are climbing in a rockstar manner on stage to let the snake make a powerful bite.

The only thing is, nobody has warned us, that this snake is suffering a heavy toothache with an ugly boil on it's wisdom tooth roots. It doesn't even help much that both eye teeth named Reb Beach and Doug Aldrich  have an excellent enamel. Because the importatn poison tooth in the middle doesn't really spit much liquid anymore.
And it somehow seems, that this poison comes rather out of the amps only on the left and right hand side of the stage. I mean, if they really have used play back techniques, than please use it in a way, that nobody thinks, something ain't right here. It's the way, Mr. Coverdale holds his microphone too far away from himself, when he screams out very loud. And besides, he honestly should quit his antique rocker matcho - Groupie bodymovements.

Now and then inbetween, it seems again, he is trying to let his throat do some saltos. But that one again seems to have retired as well. And the oral vibes have developed into a tired rattle of the snake. And again it seems as if his lips are not going synchron with whatever comes out the amps. Exspecially when you stand in the photopit , not even 5 feet away from Super Dave.

Jesus Christ it is such a pity. And what have we done, to deserve such a thing... Up there is a so called rocklegend, 57 years young grandpa. There is not much left from the apparent facelift either, but we don't care about that one. It's a fact, that the former oral nythroglycerine has exchanged for some sour cream. And nonone here wants to accept this really. This think soup consisting of live screams and whatsoever, is lasting throughout the whole set of Whitesnake. Holy shit... this ain't good at all....
And like I said before, though the musicianship within Whitesnake is a very good one, these guys can't avoid this disaster. And be honest, Whitesnake is in first place - David Coverdale but nobody else.

My advise, leave it for christ sake, if it doesn't work anymore and get this wisdom tooth out, so at least the legend won't be destroyed. It is so sad, that at the same time I'm laughing again because of such a misery. I'm prettty sure, thanks to other reviews (the reviews in the Munich newpaper ware so hard, that my one here seems mild against those) - Whitesnake won't come back again for quite a while. And maybe this is good so. I for my part have probably to over come myself to listen to some Whitesnake music for quite a while. . Sorry about all that, but I presume, I have not overdone with my review, as sorry as I am.

Here it really seems like live singing, at least in the beginning...

But it seems, there is something like justice, and this one is followed soon after the disaster before.

The King of Horros is even a few years older then the master of Disaster before, but he still looks better with his make up then the other one before without .....
And he is truly great in his stage performance. Thanks god the evening is rescured again. Alice and his band are doing once again one of these legendary shows again including the gallow and the execution. Only the boa constrictor is missing and probably has retired. She's deserved it. The cult is celebrating again a reincarnation, and it is so much fun after the torture before, which we forget within seconds, at least for the next 90 minutes.

No single second is boring. And guitarist Kerri Kelly shows his full glamrock presence accompanied by some great riffs, almost dancing tschatschatscha. And also the other half of the guitar twinset must not be ignored, as Jason Hook is a brilliant player as well. Same to bassist Chuck Garric. And not to forget of course on drums Eric Singer, who I don't need to introduce to you, I guess.
And yes, Alice plays his probably best song - 'Halo Of Flies' from 1969, in a 15 minutes version, including an excellent bass and drum solo.Shame that actually not many people even know this tune.

And all these other diamonds of Cooper's carriere are shown on the  setlist. This is Alice like he's always been and how a real Rock'n'Roll Horror show should be. Yeah well and the only fake in this performance here, is the execution, which is good, because we want Alice a bit longer than that for future live shows.

live in Munich - Gallows Scene

This is, what I call a true and great Rock'n'Roll Show. Lot's of entertainment mixed up with great music. And you know that feeling, when you don't watch the time, and you don't feel your feet, and you still wait after the last tune for something else and more. This how a rock concert should be, nothing else.
Luckily in the end, nobody regrets his 58 Euros and goes happily back home with a wonderful memory to another Alice Cooper invation.

Live in Munich -  'School's Out'

Alice – thank you, and please do not let us wait for too long to return. But please do us a favour as well. Get another second band to accompanie you on tour, so the whole evening becomes a gala dinner with an excellent long taste, and not one, which is sort of a bit bitter.....
