... and many
of you may ask yourself surely, who the hell is this?! But this is
easiyl explained. Aviv Geffen is Israel's biggest Pop-Rockstar, and idol
for young people in his country, filling stadions with 20.000 and more
fans. He's practicing a soft revolution within his songs, some are
heavy, some desperate and some full of hope, - a hope, that one day
everything will be good again. As the son of writer Jonatan Geffen, Aviv is encouraging the peace process between his country and the palestinensien autonomy districts. He is a patriot with all his heart, but he is against weapons and violence. That's why he refused the army service. On nov. 4 1995 Aviv appeared in front of thousands of people in Tel Aviv at a peace demonstration, where Rabin did a long speak. He stood only a few meters from Rabin away, when this man was shot by death. Aviv says, this has been the most dramtic moment in his life so far. And from that point he is a peace activist. Although he receives apro. 3-4 death threats every week, and can't leave his place in Tel Aviv without a body guard. By the way, his grand uncle was a man named Moshe Dajan. Beeing 35 years old, Aviv
has released already 12 albums in hebrean. Now his first CD in english
is conquering the rest of the world. He stands for the problems in his
country, He accuses himself and other's to be the fucked up generation,
and he stands up for homosexuality. Reasons enough to go out and make
himself a name in the rest of Europe, though he has start almost from
the bottom again over here in small clubs. Now we got Aviv
Geffen and Steven Wilson here in Munich at the Ampere Club, which is
well filled with aprox. 200 insiders, Blackfield and Porcupine Tree
fans. And Kintopp this is Martin (formerly in a local band named Campus) on guitar, Arne (Voc) and Jakob (Drums), whereby last one doesn't show up, out of whatever for reasons. So the other two are playing a duo performance of rather quiet, very melodic tracks, which ain't boring at all. It's this kind of music, where you lean back and just listen. It's like a river flowing peacefully through a spring landscape, and you just enjoy looking at it. Unfortunately due to time reasons, the show is restricted to just about 30 minutes. And the magic is quickly gone again. However, let's wait and see, what the future brings up for Kintopp.

Infos at:: Another online mag said once, he seems like a mixture of Marylin Manson, Prince and David Bowie. And they are not too wrong about this. He is an andrygen, in some ways, very beautiful guy. His band is from his country too.... exept Steven Wilson, who steps on stage barefoot like always. beeing 40 years of age, he still seems like 21, and he still feels like that in some ways, as he said within an interview before the show. It is rather unusual to see him playing on Stage in such a small place. Because usually Steven appears with his band Porcupine Tree in venues with at least 2.000 fans and more. Of course it is Avivs Show in first place, we enjoy here. And you can feel, that he does his job with all his heart and soul. He sings soft, he screams and he whispers desperately his thoughts and messages. He plays the guitar and also the keyboard, or he just sings - however... ripping his shirt of at some point and jumping up the amps, always continuing singing...
Whereby the highlight is surely the song 'End Of the World' and it's performance and the desperate furiously self accusment of the fucked up generation. It is truly a performance full of emotions, which the Aviv Geffen bands gives us for about 75 minutes including the encore. In fact, it is one of these concerts, where you can't get enough of, and you wish one more song again and again and again....
Aviv Geffen is truly a
strong personality, who is fascinating in his look, his aura and the way
he acts...giving us quite a concert experience tonight. But at all
these positve aspects, he is surrounded by, there is only one little
side effect in here... the actual hero for this audiance here is very
simply - Steven Wilson - no doubt and no more comment on this.... |
