In Munich right now we got some sort of a
scandinavian wave of bands coming along. At the recent Rock Over Munich
we had already swedish and norwegian Acts, and tonight the finns have
fallen into this town. And their name is: The Rasmus. It's the first
time for 2 years now, that they are here with a new Cd in the luggage
entitled 'Black Roses'.
I presume, I don't have to say too much about Blondie and Co. Because
with their 2003 album 'Dead Letters' they were on Pos 1 in the german,
swiss and finnish Charts, and everybody knew who they are. Also the new
record, the sixth one in their carriere since they started out in 1993,
they landed on no. 1 in Finland. Here in Germany it only reached 13 this
time. But the fans have stayed faithful. And there are quite a few young
one's in additon. The girls in the first 10 rows are probably not older
than aprox. 18 years young.

Well, my first thought of this kiddies party is somehow the feeling to
be the grandma in here. And I'm the only photographer as well. So it
seems there ain't not too much on an interest of the press in generell.
First of all, it's the german All-Girl Group 'Fräulein Wunder' to make
the support...

But
In confess, I only catch the last 2 songs, as I'm late as usual.
Fräulein Wunder are: Chanty (18), Pia (17), Kerstin (18) and Steffy
(19) and they are going for a Wave-Indie Punkrock Style. From these few
minutes what I see and hear, I get the impression, that they are pretty
selfconfident for their young age. And they are very encouraged. There
is still some practice neccessary what's up to their live playing,
exspecially what's up to the drummer, who get's out of rhythm a view
times. But the girls speak for their generation and show them fashion,
style and an individual attitude. And though we older one's can't
put up with it, you've gotta give 'em that much: 1) the have a major
recordlabel deal, and 2) they are fighting for a goal to participate at
this year's Eurovison Song Contest. And Fräulein Wunder will go for
that with their new single 'Sternradio'. out on feb. 6. However, there
is solid base for this group. It's just a question, how they use their
opportunities and chances...

And
now it's most of all frontman Lauri Johannes Markus Ylönen, who of all
these girlies here are waiting for. And they welcome him with a hell of
a lot of screaming....

It's
afact first, that every hairdresse would jump for joy at this boy's
oxygen blonde birdnest on his head. But well, everybody has to have a
sort of brand and put it into scene. The rest of the band is guitarist
Pauli Antero Antasalmi and bassist Eero Aleksi Heinonen. Drummer Aki
Markus Hakala came in the band in 1999, when the orignal drummer decidet
to quite and move to Thailand..
The music of the Rasmus is said to be alternativ rock. but I would
rather describe it as symphonic Poprock, whoever this meets your
imagination.
One thing is for sure, the song 'In The Shadows' has been such a big hit
in 2003, that everybody knows the melody, even he/she still doesn't know
the band - you bet.....

And
though I didn't come here with big expectations tonight, I'm
surprised about the enthusiasm and the well performed entertainment.
This band doesn't need a huge stage outfit. And they put their focus on
their music only. It's only singer Lauri who is a sort of focus visually.
Pauli's guitar soli show, that this, just about 30 year old musician is
really talented. - The Highpoint, - of course - 'In The Shadows', the
last song before the encore. And the whole venue is getting nuts.
Fan,
like this young lady below on the far left, get invited to join the band
on stage to sing along with. In her case, yeah well, she ain't
neccessarely, what I'd call a singer... But at least, she is really
happy and will be dreaming of this for weeks now, I presume.
My personal opinion of this gig here is a good one. Because whatever
this band performs here, is pretty good, despite the teenie action...
And to mention one more thing in the end, The boys do come out after the
show to sign countless CD covers and tickets for their fans.
It's just a shame, that the Rasmus could never repeat the success of 'Dead
Letters' yet. And the question is, how long will they still hang on to
that one...
