Jesus wept.... since this very day, - I know, I can do it as well.... I mean, to play in a band... Why? I tell you a bit later, when we come to that point.
And again we got some fins in town, currently beeing on invasion course here in Munich. At least it seems so. And one is more attractive than the other and harder than the next one. We reach another highlight with the Children of Bodom, who I've seen playing live, supporting other's like Slayer and Slipknot only. And they go for the Young Generation Metal, like I use to name it. And all these young dudes here know them pretty well yet.
This band has started out in 1993, mind me, with a different name first of all. From the original line up there is only singer Alexi Laiho and drummer Jaska W.Raatikainen lefte. But Alexi is anyway the sould and the engine of this machine. By the way, as often he uses the neat word fuck on stage, - I swear, he didn't even use it once withing the 20 minutes talk before the show. But well, on stage there has to be kept up a certain image... I guess....

It's a fact, the Children of Bodom have established themselves in the biz with six albums, three Best of's... and live recordings and nine singles/EPs. The the
evidence of their quality are several gold and even platin awards. This is not the first headliner tour for Alexi and the boys here in Germany. But he also never minded himself to support other famous acts. Because it gave him further bonus points and reputation.  Currently we are here on yet another Headliner tour, filling the Backstage Werk with aprox. 1.000 fans. Support comes from Diablo, also from Finland, and Cannibal Corpse from the US.

And there we are with the first one's on the bill.....

Those one's have started out not much later than the headliner. And their latest release 'Icarus' from last year, is their fifth one on the whole.
Only the reputation is not quite as huge. Diablo is: Singer Rainer Nygård, guitarist Marko „Kuula“ Utriainen, drummer Heikki Malmberg and Bassist Aadolf Virtanen. That last mentioned one, is the only founder member left. Diablo go for Bay Aria Thrashmetal and take influences from Metallica, Testament and Slayer. And you can hear that clearly out of their music. By the way, every album includes a song, whereby the title is taken from a Coroner Song. That's the way, to honour their idols. A further tradition is, to print a Chuck Schuldner statement into every CD booklet. It says: 'Let The Metal Flow'.

Alle  Clips  live in Munich

The music is written by both guitarists Rainer Nygård und Marko Utriainen. And I have to say, this band has got something to it. They are brillant instrumentalists, showing off their talents. And Rainer underlines the music with his powerful voice. Only the average moving is a bit static, which is rather good for me as a photographer, I must admit. Well, 30 minutes are a bit short, but that's the usual fate of openers. The magic is gone again, making place for number 2 within this happy go luck threesome acts.. (no setlist was available here)

Oh no, who we got here????? Old friends, who have already beaten the hell out of every venue in the Eighties. Here are Cannibal Corpse with all their lovely
spring melodies.

Wauw, chicken's go wild, and grandpa rises up from the family graveyard to check out this happy twittering of these sophisticated gentlemen from Buffolo. Thank god, I knew before, what's coming up here, thanks to some past experience with this lot. And I try to take them with a big portion of humour. Only Bassist Alex Webster and drummer Paul Mazurkiewicz is left from the original line up. The rest had been renewed over the years, What's up to the front nitingale, this was a rather deep cut into Cannibal Corpses stylistic. Because none could better grumble than Chris Barnes, who was the brand of the Kings of Death Metal. Unfortunately he decided to go for his other project 'Six Feet Under' only in 1995. Therefore George Fisher left his band Montrosity and landed into Cannibal Corpse, and.... they went straight into the famous Billboard Charts as the very first Death Metal Band. Halleluja, who would have thought this? But it hasn't changed the fact, that shows and albums of the band have been prohibited in many states because of the aggressive lyrics and tunes.

Well at least here in Germany they can do what they want. And let's be honest, what's up to their aggressive lyrics... it doesn't really matter whether they sing about Jack the Ripper, Zombies or the life and death of bumble bees. I bet, noone in here tonight does figure out a single word of what Sir George presents us.
By the way, believe it or not, despite the name, some of the guys here are strict vegetarians. Who would have thought that. But back to the mus.... yeah well - whatsoever... The only thing which gets in my ears is the lead guitar of Rob Barret. His solos stuck out of the death metallic chamber concerto.

But at all this, the thing I criticice most, is the non existing light conditions, which let the boys up there only appear as a silhoutte out of the nirvana. I've hardly ever sweared so much in my life, and now I understand, why nobody else exept me, dares and takes the challenge in the pit to take pictures.
Well, you can say whatever you want about t hem. But one thing is for sure. Cannibal Corpse belong to Metal History like ABBA belongs to pop music. And they certainly own some sort of cult status. With this tour the 13th album 'Evisceration Plague' get's promoted. And this one hasn'd landed on the index yet. Our Corpsis are quite happy right now, because their new diamond sold 1.000 units on it's first day of release. Respect, that means a lot.
And one more thing is for sure, I can do, what they are doing up there. I just need a pneumatic hammer and off we go.... Yiiiippiiieeehhhh, and I get easily rid of every unwanded visitor at my house within 10 seconds or even less and never see them again.
The prove you find below....

So, and last but not least, our stars of tonight fight off the smog in here and give 'em fire. Children of Bodom are not quite as extrem as the band before and not quite as hard and .... you understand every word... yeah of course, otherwise we couldn't filter out all these luvable fuck, fuck fucks out of it....

What I didn't catch before, when I saw this band in a supportrole, is the fact, that this skinny frontboy almost does the job on his own. He seems like 21, but is already 30 years of age. Never mind, his selfconfidence and ego is huge and talks for itselves.
The highlight of a Children of Bodom show is surely the duet of guitar and keyboard, whereby the keys sound almost like a guitar again.

And although over here there ain't that many fans hailing this band, like in the states, Alexi and the boys give their best to make this magic complete. The young audiance thanks the group with a lot of enthusiasm. For the songs I can say, that the put their focus on Blooddrunk.

Yes of course, something wants to get sold. And also on this record there is one song including the word Bodom, like on ever other Album beeing released so far. (see setlist). The Children Of Bodom are hard to put into a draw. Alexs said once: 'To me it's just metal, and that's it. It's not Black Metal, not death Metal and it's not thrash. It's just Metal.' And that's it.
But the music has got a clear structur and melody. Alexi has shown once again his skills, and surely has climbed up some more inches on the scale of popularity. Keep on going I would say. It can only get even better with this - 'I live for the Music' attitude. And now we get a decent drink first of all. Because if the finnish people can do one thing even better than their music, then it is the enjoyment of the holy spirit in a bottle.  No surprise though, as that one is so much cheaper here in Germany than it is in Finlad. And this chance has to be taken.... and is a good reason as well to be back soon.. Cheers!!!!
