I
t's funny. When I see this band live on stage nowadays, I must think immidiately back to the Eighties, when these Southamericans still played in the legendary line up - The Cavaleras Brothers and Andreas Kisser sharing one stage. Yeah well, you gotta say, that Kisser ain't really an original member, but came in the band 2 years after the band's birth in 1984, and doing their first album with them. But thanks to  the long space of time inbetween and many things happening inbetween, Kisser nowadays is sort of the boss of Sepultura. Although, not to forget, there is actually one original member from the very beginning of the band, still with them. And this is bassist Paulo Xisto Pinto jr. - I don't think I have to mention again the story circling around the split with Max Cavalera. It's been 13 years now, so what?! It's past tense. Though the rumours lately started circling again about a reunion and whatsoever. . On the other hand there is nothing like it pointing on such a thing, So just forget it for now. - The other Cavalera Brother stayed at least 'till 2006, before he went off as well.
Today, the brasilian flagship of Heavy Metal consists apart from Kisser and Pinto jr., also of singer Derrick Leon Green and drummer Jean Dolabella. Last time Sepultura have been to Germany, was, when they opened for InFlames in 2006, and already in this constellation. But as we all know, opener slots do differ miles from a headliner show. So off we go and let's check out Sepultura again. This time they are the kings of the road, presenting us their new conceptalbum 'A-Lex'. It's about the main figure in Stanley Kubrik's cult classic movie 'Clockwork Orange'. But the title has a second meaning as well. It's russian and stands for lawlessness.

Sepultura get supported by two acts, whereby the local opener named
Die Letzten which means translated: the Last One's, I dismiss . I just arrive by time to check out my austrian fellows 'The Sorrow'.

Actually currently there is no other austrian rockband of this style who fetched themselves such a reputation as The Sorrow did over the last one or two years. I've seem them playing once before, supporting Heaven Shall Burn at this very same venue here. I personally think, they don't seem like they are from Austria, because this group sounds somehow international, dun' know really how to describe it the best way. The Sorrow are: singer Mätze, guitarist Andy, bassist Toby and no, not drummer Dominik tonight, but it's Nick W. from Maroon, who jumped in for the other due to healthreasons.
'Origin Of The Storm' is the title of the second chapter of The Sorrow which get's introduced to us. Unfortunately right in the beginning of The Sorrow's set, some ugly technical break downs evolve.

But a nice and helpful Sepultura stagehand is immidiately on hand to help. Meanwhile singer Mätze trys to entertain the audiance with some announcements and anekdotes. And before the band is able to continue, he says, that he's waysted all his inbetweenies now and has to think of something else. Well, I don't think there is one fan here, who would bother about this. And there is no need in such a set. Yes I do like the show of the Sorrow, maybe because they are so selfconfident, providing powrful entertainment or the generell attitude and aura. The fans seem to have the same opinion  and show thier affection with much luv and resonance. Voila' and well done, that's all which is left to say, and hopefully things will even go better for them in the future.

Infact, there was more audiance expected tonight, than there actually is....

But unfortunately only about 500 freaks have found their way to this place. I presume it's the usual reasons, like to many other events in this town, the beginning of a working week or even the freezing temperatures outside. And some kids rather prefer staying home and watching telly. Good for them who made the effort and came out, because whatever comes next, is worth while bearing the cold and the ticket prices. To be honest, I've almost forgotten, what a great band Sepultura actually is. Because as I mentioned in the beginning, it's a hell of a difference to see a band as the opener playing or like tonight, as the headliner. And last time I've seen them playing on their own, is quite a few years ago, hardly to remember for me....

But let's forget the past.... We are here tonight and enjoy the powerful guitar riffs of Mr.Kisser and the strong vocals of Derek. And we beat the hell out of ourselves to the rhythm of bassist Pinto jr. and drummer Jean Dolabella. Thanks god nobody is forced to stand in the dangerzone no.1 - the moshpit. And there is still enough room outside to watch the scenery and move at least your big toe.
Sepultura offer us next to cuts from the new opus 'A-Lex' all their classic tunes, including the highpoints 'Arise' and the last amen of the show - 'Roots'

This is great and everything suits together so well, the pleasure of the band to play, the sparkle, which jumps over nonstop from stage to the audiance, and the total devotion of all fans. Andreas Kisser proves once again, what brilliant guitarist he is. And the big bongo drum, which competes with Derek's  dreadlocks of what beeing the no1 focus on stage, gives the whole thing some sort of exotic touch. No, there is definately nothing to complain about it. And in the end, Sepultura have given us 90 minutes of neat thrashmetal Chanson da'mour, no more no less... no further wishes open....
