Who? Many of you might think now, I know this name, although not beeing pretty sure where from. Just a Die Hard Rolling Stones fan knows immidiately, who this man is. Mick Taylor came in for Brian Jones at the Rolling Stones, stayed for 6 years and quit again in 1974 because of differences with Keith Richards. Since then, this exeptional guitarist follows his own path more or less successful. It has always been mainly the collarboration with other well known musician which kept him alive. I'm talking of names like  Jack Bruce, Lowell George, american band Little Feat, John Phillips of the Mamas and Papas, he went on tour with Alvin Lee (1981), did a world reunion tour with John Mayall and John McVie and worked in the studio (Infidels, 1983) and on af Tour with Bob Dylan (Real Live, 1984). Taylor also played on Keith Richards first soloalbum 'Talk Is Cheap' at the song  'I Could Have Stood You Up'. On Dec. 14, Mick played almost a whole concert with the Rolling Stones agsain at the Kemper Arena in Kansas City. Some fans then hoped, that he would return to the Stones, but he didn't.
In 1989 Mick Taylor and the Stones were both introduced into the Rock'n'Roll hall of Fame. In the beginning of the 90s eh joined Bill Wyman's Rhythm Kings. And inbetween he continously released solo records. His last CD is entitled Family Meeting-Wentus Blues Band &MT and came out last year.
Meanwhile this guitarist turned 60 years old. Reason enough, to tour Europe again with his own band. And so tonight he brings the Blues to our Metropolis here in Munich.

Support comes from local bavarian Country-Cover-Band „Dibss“.

I can't tell you too much about them, as they only cover famous Rock'n'Roll and Country songs. Maybe I should mention the harp player, who does a very good job, and maybe the fact, that it is a surprise indeed, that these rather young musicians go for this old sound.
Yeah well, it's okay and quite nice, but nothing impressing. But whenever you look for a good partyband for your living room or wheresoever, then you can't get wrong with this lot....

And then the drama is starting off....

And it starts with massive technical problems, which seem to be too tough to get rid off.
By the way, the band consists, apart from Mick Taylor, also of guitarist Denny Newman, Max Middleton on Keyb., Jeff Allen on drums and Michael Bailey on bass. Everyone of them is a brilliant musician, no doubt about that, but.....

... first of all today's sound engineer should get beaten up. Because Taylors voice drowns within the sound, at least for the first time. A little later it gets a bit better. But there are still the technical problems and just won't go. Taylor starts his appearance with the song 'Strange Affair' and then goes mainly for solomaterial, some Albert King and Muddy Waters tunes and one Stones track. (unfortunately no setlist available). Inbetween Taylor leaves the stage and leaves the frontman part up to Mr. Newman.

These blues tracks here are very long and exended, and Mick's qualities as a guitar player are pretty much obvious. Although we've got the feeling, that he ain't in a very good mood, playing his stuff without any emotions or fun. He seems to play for himself only with closed eyes, very introverted. I personally miss the soul in this performance, the famous sparkle, which just doesn't happen to jump across from the stage onto the audiance. At some points I can't avoid a look on my watch. Also there ain't no much movement within the audiance either. Only now and then the old passion flashes up in Taylors face.

tja, damals haben wir irgendwie gesünder ausgeschaut....

Apart of all that, there ain't much enthusiasm ata ll. And some of us ask themselves later on, what this has been. And I just wanna mention the high ticket price of 30 Euros besides. Shame, that such a firstclass guitarist has turned so slack. Whatever is up to history and talent, but if I have had to pay tonight, I would have regret every single cent. Sad but true...
