Okidok, let's start it this way... How would you imagine a person with the german name Friedrich Wilhelm, or Karl Friedrich or Franz Ferdinand? Yes exactly! This can only be a good behaved boy, who has just  graduated from School, or a bookkeeper, neat, buttons on the shirt closed and a possible tie, and of course a nice short haircut....
And that's how our Franz Ferdinand look like here, when they enter the stage of our Tonhalle here in Munich. They are the living dream of all mother's of law.
But I assume, after only 3 seconds mum would shoot off immidiately. Because the scots let the ghost of Canterville dance a wild Rock'n'Roll. Jes..... the highland fog is vanishing straight away and get's the kids in the audiance freak out.
The venue is completely sold out wich means there are aprox. 2.000 fans, and I guess, not even bumblebee would fit in anymore. But, and this is the point, it's not only the first 20 rows getting mad of enthusiasm. It is indeed the whole crowd in here, consisting people of an average age between 20 and 35, jumping and rocking along.
Support came from a band named
Kissogram but I missed them.

Well... and there we are with the scottish invasion, consisting of Alex Kapranos (Voc/Git), Nicholas McCarthy (Git,Keyb.Voc), Paul Thomson (Drums) and Robert Hardy (Bass). By the way, for everybody, who still don't know.... These guys adapted their name from the austrian-hungarian duke Franz Ferdinand, who's killing in Sarajevo in 1914 started the first world war. The band insists, that their name is pronounced the german way. Meanwhile great chartpositions, two Brits awards and many more awards, have given their band a brilliant reputation on an international base.
Guitarist Nick McCarthy is responsible for the german influence in the band, as he went to school in bavaria and studied piano and contrabass in Munich. At this time he played with a local folk-punk band named Kamerakino, and almost 5 years with the Krautrock Musician's collectiv Embryo.
So this show here is some sort of Home gig for him. Most announcements inbetween the songs are done by him - in german of course.

The setlist shows sort of a greatest hits ensemble with the focus on the new album ‚Tonight – Franz Ferdinand’. Yeah well, that one wants to be promoted, doesn't it.... ?! And despite the critics of this new piece say, that it is too much electronic, you certainly don't feel any of this on stage here. This is Rock'n'Roll with a bit Wave from the eighties and a little 60s atmosphere...Whether it's  "No You Girls", "Lucid Dreams", "Ulysses" oder "Turn it On" from the new record, or the older songs  "Take Me Out" or "What She Came For", just to name a few.
The amusing fact is, that Franz Ferdinand don't take themselves too seriously. The band shows a lot humour, taking the micky out of old rockers Status Quo, or all four of them torture the drumkit towards the end of the show. The last highligt is set by Nick McCarthy, who practices his stage diver talent and jumps into the audiance. This is madness here, and there is no stopping....
The only slight critics I got tonight, is the lenght of the set, which is only about 1 1/4 hour. This is pretty short, though the exhaustment is surely immense.
But apart from that, there is not much more to say.... it's been a brilliant show of these Rock'n'Roll youngsters.
You've just gotta check 'em out next time again....
