and let's go into another round, and once again - Jeff Scott Soto, the multi talent, the exeptional musician, the allround talent, and ..... the eternal looser...
What a shame. As we say so in german: all (less) good things are always 3, so here we got another artist after Eric Sardinas and Gazpacho, who are on a very high level situated, but they all can't manage for an international break through and up onto the very top. Often I have asked myself, whether this is due to the trends right now, which don't allow these musical styles. Or it is simply the fact, that this man for instance always seems to be at the wrong place at the wrong time. Jes... I really don't know, and it will stay a mystery I presume. Jeff Scott Soto is  indeed a brillant entertainer, who can manage to combine so many musical styles in one big jamsession. It's the Blues, the Rock and the funk and soul. And from time to time he is over here, not much really changes. Unfortunately the audiance don't change either. So it's still those 100 lost souls who find their way to a venue, when Jeff Scott Sotos appears live on stage.
However first of all a big thank you to the local promoter, who gives me a bit more stage light this time for taking my pictures, - including a Baileys on the Rocks. Yep, those are the last real Gentlemen in Rock'n'Roll *lol*
But back to the musical action and this artist, who, although he's been the singer of Journey for a while, couldn't win a few more friends for his solo activities because of that.
Jeff Scott Soto has once again a new band creation around him and that one consist of Jorge Salan (guit), a young talent from Madrid, Spain. And this one has also pulled his collegue the bassist Fernando Mainer. Drummer Edu Cominato and guitarist BL we know already from brazilian outfit Tempestt, who are a good rockband by themselves but also do accompany Sotos excursions as well.

Over all we are right in the middle of the 1st leg of Sotos Beautiful Mess Tour. The Setlist contains mainly solomaterial of Jeff, apart from the usual funky medley, which actually belongs to every Soto show anyway. Later on, Mr.Soto says, that he has some problems with his voice because of too much aircondition in a car on the way to munich. But to be honest, nobody really notices this weakness, me neither....

'Hey'

'I'll Be Waiting'

Soto is an artist who does understand how to connect to the audiance and entertains them very well in each way. He gives  his mates up there on stage enough possibillities to show their skills as well. No we can't really complain about a Soto performance, because like I said so before, he's a great entertainer. But I can't hide these feelings, that he is the type of musician, who goes with the venue he's in. That means, the bigger the venue is, the more extensive his performance becomes. He definately needs a lot of freedom to move around and get outta himself. But that again, you only get, when the request  lifts up the economical value and the venues get larger.  But it didn't yet, apart from the Journey trip. So Jeff still struggles within this liliput landscape of Rock'n'Roll clubs, despite his well established name.

I guess, it's the pleasure and fun to play, which keeps him going on. And Jeff truly gives everything with songs like 'Soul Divine', 'Eyes Of Love' or 'Testify'. Even Madonnas 'Frozen' sounds very interesting performed by the Soto band. But the highpoint at each Soto show is still the funky medley, which contains rockclassics like 'We Will Rock You' 'till the funk hymn ' Play That Funky Music'... These few fans here show a lot of enthusiasm and definately want more. So Jeff and band give 'em one more song, which is not on the setlist - and this is one of  Toto's no. 1 songs 'Hold The Line' .

'Stand Up'

Very nice indeed what our livingroom Melodic Rocker No.1. offers us here tonight. And I'm pretty sure, next year or so, we got him back again for another round. So I would call the whole thing - an optimistic hopelessness of being in Rock'n'Roll..... Long Live The Music...- what else...
and happy Easter.
