To be
honest, I wouldn't have thought, that the german Band from Kiel, named
Smoke Blow are already going for 12 years. Somehow I missed out on them,
thanks to their underground status - until now. So what... there is time
enough to catch up with them. And that's what I'm doing tonight. The
band has released so far eight albums, whereby the first two one's only
came out on cassette in the States. those have
just released their new album entitled ‚Reinventing Appetite For Destruction’.
By the way, I heard, the band have adopted their name from a figure from
the Men In Black movie. The smal stage here is obviously much too small
for our frontman here, so he takes some of the audiance space as well,
as nobody heads froont anyway at this point. And runs up and down like a
nervoes tiger in a Zoo cage and screams his violent and aggressive
messages into the air. Inbetween he does some announcements, and it
seems too many of them, as one guy in the audiance starts shouting:
"don't talk so much and keep on singing". I fear at this point
that the situation gets outta hand with a major argument, but
fortunately it doesn't in the end. He's also got a go on the elderly
generation and their attitude, but their ain't that many people in here,
feeling regarded to this, exept maybe me :-) Well,
to make it short and painless. Tackleberry are playing dead bone hard
and ferious Metalcore, strongly influenced by punkmusic, which gives the
songs a special structure and individual note. But there has to be still
a lot more work doneto get the right button pressed in it's presentation,
if you know what I mean by that. However, they are young and have got
all the time in the world to privilege themselves, mind me... as long as
they don't split again before that. And that one again is nothing
unusual nowadays, is it...?!

well, their
names are a matter of taste indeed, but that's not the point. Their 12
years existence is clearly reflecting in Smoke Blows selfconfident
performance. And again, half of the show is happening inmidst the
audiance. Meanwhile the fans have come closer to the stage, moshing
along with the band, most of all with their frontmen. Their sound the
band describes as a mixture of Noise, Doom, Stonerrock, Punkrock and
hardcore, whereby I can't really make a huge difference. So I leave it
up to you guys out there to make up your minds. But in the end I do like
what I get to hear. It's hard, it's none compromising, but it still
contains sort of a recognition effect, getting stuck in my ear. This is
an amusing show including some funny bits and pieces and a hell of an
energy. Just for
mentioning it, the two singers are accompanied by Kentucky on guitar,
Gerrard, The J.R. also on guitar, Greiff Hellhammer on bass and Fabrizio
on drums.
The place is
steaming, whereby sweat is flowing literwise developing immidiately into
damp again. And the most part of the crowd is keeping up with the band's
physical exhaustion, building a smal but fine moshpit. One thing is for
sure, the young heavy metal from nowadays is not dominated by
longhaired, plaquative jackets wearing and headbanging stuborn looking
guys, but rather by youngsters with short hair, a logoshirt only, but
developing the place within minutes into a twister desaster dangerzone. Over all,
I'm pretty sure, if Smoke Blow keep going, we could get to hear a lot
more of these boys in the near future. Because they have just started to
leave the underground behind them, going to conquer the rest of the
world. And I could imagine, that they manage to establish their name to
a wide audiance. Meanwhile this means touring, touring touring their
butts off. That's what you've gotta do anyway in Rock'n'Roll biz to
reach some kind of destination. And of course a little luck... because
without that, nothing else works in the present times. |
