Almost unbelievable, that this rockband is already going since 1974, though it had been pretty quiet round this lot for quite a while. Let's put it that way, Y&T, originally named 'Yesterday & Today leaned on the same titled Beatles album are mainly Dave Meniketti. He was already known as a guitar wizard  in the seventies in the San Francisco Bay area. The Band has put out 11 albums until 1997, although there was break between 1990 and 1995. After 97 lot's of Best of's... and Compilationalbums came along. On the whole the group sold more than 4 Million albums 'till the very day. And for quite a few years now, Y & T are busy on the road again and touring. Today there is only Dave Meniketti himself and bassist Phil Kerremore left from the original Line up

First time I've checked out Y & T was sometime in the late Eighties. The second time was 3 years ago at the Bang Your Head festival in Germany. And because all good things are 3, - as we say so, tonight I'm gonna see 'em playing live for th third time at this club here in Munich. And I hope it's not gonna be the last time. First of all, I realize once again, what a hell of a difference it is, to see a band performing on a huge open air festival stage during daytime, or like now, within an intimate club, which carries an artist much more intensively across, than it does on a big stage, beeing far away. Within an interview before the show, with, meanwhile 56 year old Meniketti,it is obviously, that there is still lots  of enthusiasm and energy left to put out, including a brandnew album, which is planned for a soon release. So let's be curious for this show and hopefully get an open fire started.....

But before their are 2 supportacts trying to increase the heat. Due to the early start, I do miss the opener, a young rockband from Rosenheim, Souhthern Bavaria. And that's unfortunately not the first time. Sorry Boys, next time I'll be there for sure.

Bad Dog Bites fare next.....

And here I catch at least half of their set, to discover soon, that this lot is not so bad at all. Yep, it does exist, the hopeful new rock generation.
Bad Dog Bites  play Rock'n'Roll with some bluesy elements, but also hard metal riffs. Nothing new though, but it's got a good rhythm to it.Unfortunately
there ain't many infos to be found on the internet despite their official myspace page. But in each case - respect, judging them as a rather new act, I do like what I see and hear....

and there we again ....Y & T  2009 and no end in sight.....

And yeeessssss!!!! The band rolls on like a thunderstrike. And this one again continues for 90 minutes, without calming down a single second. Jesus wept, this band is truly first class!!!! And exactly now, we are at this point, where I mentioned in the beginning, how big the difference is between an open air appearance and a club gig, whereby the walls of our Metropolis almost break down because of such a bunch of energy, beeing produced up there on stage by these - still young at heart - guys..... And like we say so, some youngster could get a lesson hereby. Dave Meniketti is a through and through out full blooded musican on lead guitar as well as on vocals. Everything here is just right, and one smashhit follows after the other, started by 'Open Fire' leading to 'Meanstreak', Midnight In Tokyo' and of course 'Summertime Girls'. Holy shit. No time to breath, and the audiance is standing on their heads. That's exactly what I think about a great and spicy Rock'n'Roll show.

Next to Dave Meniketti and Phil Kennemore there are John Nymann on rhythm guitar and  Mike Vanderhule drums.

Towards the end of this excellent performance we all get a little nervous. Because the set has to be finished by 11 p.m. because of a nightclub opening it's doors shortly after in here. So the question is: is there still time left to play an encore. And yes there is finally... Because such a phantastic gig and then without one of the band's biggest hits... no no, this simply can not be.... And there we go.... yeesssss 'Rescue Me' - what a hell of a song!!!!
By the way, the best ever recorded version of this song you find on the Open Fire live album from 1981.
It's done, and no wishes are left.....

No my friends, I don't overdo it here. This has been one of the best gigs lately, next to the Eagles show a few days ago, . There is only one tiny aspect, I personally had wished. What would I have given, if  Stef Burns (Y&T Guitarist from 1989 – 2001) would have been here with the other's in addition.. However, Happy Birthday Stef on june 26. and hope to see you again sometime in the future.
