Munich's annual Tollwood Festival, going for a mere of 4 weeks, offering lots of events and arts of all kind from all over the world, has started. Today is Day 3, and for me it's the first night, spending at the music tend, to shoot a band, which is in that case - Simple Minds.
The tend offers space for 5.000 people, today it's about 3.500 guest of all ages who have gathered here. It's mainly the generation 40+, who have grown up with the success of the band in the eighties.
There is one more thing to mention about Tollwood events in generall. All concerts are starting at 7 p.m.  with the supportact. The headliner goes on by 8 and the whole thing has to be finished by 10 p.m. But this ain't a rule by the Tollwood company. It's rather a law given by town authorities here in Munich because of noise polution. Well I don't know, the areal is situated in Munich's Olympiapark in the north of the city. And the closest buildings are the Olympiahall,Stadion and tower, but no normal living buildings. But on the other hand, these rules have their advantages as well, exspecially during the week, when the average guy has to get up early for work the next morning
Let's face it. There is nothing worse, than having 4 or even 5 bands playing after each other in one club. And the headliner, everybody is waiting for, goes on by 11.30 p.m. - This can't be happening here. And so off we go with the first of 6 concert, I'll be shooting and reviewing on this year's Tollwood Festival. For festival information go here.

... and there he is again, the sexiest man alive in Pop'n'Roll circus. Yep, that's true. although he starts looking more and more similar to Hollywood beau Bruce Willis. - However, it ain't the visual aspect counting, what's up to Jim Kerr, It is more or less the smashing stage presence, which is sooo irresistable. Long talk short sense - a Simple Minds concert is always something special.
They seem to belong to these timeless bands, who have survived from the glory Eighties with only minor damages because of some years sort of inactivities. And from the original line up there is anyway only singer Jim Kerr and guitarist Charlie Burchill left.

But you have to give those two guys that much, that they have kept pretty much in a good shape, visually and what's up to the physicall condition. I presume, I don't have to tell you Simple Mind's  history. For everybody who wants to refresh memory - here we go......
Jimmy Boy storms the stage and shoots off with... no wrong.... not one of his many smashers, but with 'Children Of The Revolution' by T-Rex.
And the party is getting outta hand from the fist second, as if premiere soocer league club FC Bayern plays again.... whosoever. ( no I'm not a fan of this club, - just to make sure....)

And there are some things to celebrate, which is first of all - a new album, just released, named 'Graffity Soul', the follow up to 2005's 'Black And White'... and on the other hand it's the band's 30h anniversary. The setlist contains 5 tracks from the new piece and all these Simple Minds milestones, like  ‚Hypnotise’, Don’t You (Think About Me’), ‚Sanctify’ und ‚She’s A River’.
Jim Kerr's got them all in here, and nobody can perform bodylanguage so well as he does. And with a lot of aura and espirit, he get's everybody in here to sing along, never mind if it sounds a bit wrong or not... All the fans are celebrating this party with a band, who has somehow renewed

Last time 3 years ago at the Zenith here in Munich, the show had been alread first class. But this here is even better. Hey, have you ever seen the movie "The curious Case of Benjamin Button"? Then you know what I mean. These scotsmen up there seem to get younger every time they show up right now. Mind me, Mr.Kerr is celebrating his 50th birthday in July. But as we say so... you're always as young as you feel like... - you know that..don't ya'...
The typcal bombastic Synthie sound of the Simple Minds still comes up at the old big hits. But with the new music, the guys rather have put their focus on hard guitar riffs. Pop and Rock and New Wave is perfectly mixed together.
Because I have seen the setlist first after the show, I ask myself throughout the whol gig: are they gonna play my favorite tune or not... And there it comes within the encore... 'Home'.... 'Home'.... 'Home'...
Yeeessss operation well done, patient is healed. And I'm deadly sure, that the Simple Minds are always welcomed back again here in Munich.
And some day we'll go to the Oktoberfest again, well Jimmy?????
